Since January 2011 we have played 25 EPL games. W - 7 D - 6 L -12 75 points available. We got 27. Thats 1.08 points per game. With 31 games to go at that average and remember this is a long term trend now not just this season, we will accrue another 34 points (rounded up), which rounded up again gives us 40 by May 15th. We are on target for 40 points then. Will that be enough? Maybe. Will it be the season we all wanted. I think not. Will it be the one Short wanted. Thats for him to decide. BTW. Using this season form guide in isolation, we are averaging 0.857 points per game. Rounded up, that would give us a further 27 points, which in turn means we are, on this seasons form guide, on target for 33 points come May 15th. You can all do the maths as to what that will mean cant you? It may be a flawed formula but form guides are used by many bodies to determine possible outcomes in sport. Makes you think a bit doesnt it?
Yup cant argue with the stats, id be happy with a change. Without Bendtner i could see us going down the way things are going!
Stats are stats. As the poor bankers found out, what happens in the past is no real measure of what can happen in the future. Look short term. You fought back valiantly against a very good footballing side and judging from the commentary you could have won. I know how you guys are feeling (I will never forget the 08/09 season) but you have the personnel to kick on and do well enough. I know you are a BOB and I can see why, however things can turn for the better. Keep The Faith . You have improved massively under Potato faces tenure.
We were 10th last season as Bruce has pointed out bottom lip quivering on SSN our 3rd best result in the last 50 odd years.
Sorry mate they were rubbish after the first 5 minutes and looked worse than we did after that, this isn't a knee jerk reaction to a couple of bad results this is a long term problem that we as fans with no coaching badges or knowledge of football apparently can see, so why can't Bruce or Quinn or Short see it? Bruce has had 3 years to build a team and has failed no LB or LW for 3 years a sad lack of strikers still (Bent was not his signing he was already lined up by Quinn) and, a worrying reliance on loan deals to try and limp over the line.
Maybe they can see it but are struggling to find the personnel to fill those spaces in. To Bruce's credit, he has cut down the loans this term which could help in the long run. All I am saying is, if you take a trend of the last 3 years anyway, there has been an improvement in your placings. You were top 10 last season and you can do it again this season.
Agree mate but it was Bruce who went for the shed full of loans last season again we could all see problems with it but he couldn't and lo and behold had to rebuild yet again this season. Yes we got 10th last season which is a decent finish for most teams however that was achieved through a very good start to the season which we have not had this time around. If and it's a big if we manage to miss out on our annual mid season slump then yes we should be okay, 10th will be a stretch but okay all the same. However as Sunderland fans who have seen all this before we again can see the slump looming large on the horizon. Sounded like a hard fought win for you lot today what's your call on your finish this season?
Cest - I worked out we'd get 33 or 34 points this season working off our results so far - it's on another thread. After four games I wouldn't even have bothered working it out - every 4 games this season will not include Liverpool, Chelsea and Newcastle. It was a hard start to the season. But those figures are becoming more viable now that we've played Stoke, Norwich and WBA. We've now had a taste of the difficult and a taste of the 'easier' games - and it's starting to look bad. Bruce was on Sports Report today saying we have some good players and they just need time to gell. Well, I can take that, but only for so long. We're already over a sixth of the way through the season. They'd better gell pretty quickly or what now just looks bad WILL be bad.
Enjoy the rollercoaster. Regardless, there are at least 6 teams worse than you anyway so your position in the PL is safe. Our match today started off very well and then tapered off into a disaster! They deserved at least a point in all honesty. As Pardew said though, we cannot get carried away and we still need 25 points! Last thing I want is 2nd season syndrome. With that in mind, I would love top 10 but I suspect we will be anywhere between 8th and 12th. In and around you guys
