Had a senior moment there, and not a term used these days. BTW do you play? Me, played since 15 years old but never got any better.

My favourite of all stringed instruments (with the exception of piano) it's like a rich baritone voice. Did you see it through?

Do you have a guitar hero? Didn't like the Smiths but Marr's timing and touch makes you want to give up playing.

Without whom we wouldn't have Hazel O'Connor;s "Will you" (fast forward past the singing bits) On second thoughts, listen to the whole lot, and use the vocals as a reference point to the excellence of the composition...not bad playing either.

Wow, that gave me a moment. Now thinking of adding some sax to the song.

I have played for years. My electric guitar is a Gibson Les Paul. I tried for the same set up as Peter Green, my guitar hero, but I can't play like him, lack of ability. I have a Martin acoustic which is a lovely guitar but is very unforgiving if you make a mistake.

That's why I never had a Martin, it would make me sound worse than I am. Lack of ability here also, though piano has come easy. Tried the sax last year but my teeth are too loose and not enough of them. I have a Guild F20 I think. A bit overbuilt, but I'm quite rocky in performance so sounds ok'ish. Also have a violin bass which is a joy to play with a quite short scale.

Nice to have some musicians to chat with.

Didn't Paul Mc Cartney play a violin bass. I like the sound of it.

Correct, though my one is a modern version, identical but more playable. The originals buzzed a lot. At 12 years of age I learnt I was a low baritone and that a singing career was never to be...oh well, best all round I think.

For all the prima donnas of this world. How big is McCartney? but he is just an ordinary guy who you could have a beer with.

I used to have one of those, sold it for £20:cry:. Paul McCartney IMO was a terrific bass player, some fantastic bass lines helped drive the Beatles rhythm. Jack Bruce was probably my favourite bass guitarist, the Flecktones' bass guitarist is worth a listen.

England's greatest guitarist. That first Fleetwood Mac album is excellent. So sad what happened to him, Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwin so soon after though.

It's a Hofner right? They were imported to the UK from Germany in the late 50s as cheap Les Paul knockoffs. If you ever see footage of skiffle bands in the late 50s almost all the guitarists are playing Hofner Club 50s.

McCartney picked up one of their basses for some reason and changed the fortunes of the company almost on his own.
