    yup so ive been told
but im wondering why have i had 36k in my head all these years?
was that the capacity of BP at the time and it was touted as a sell out?

the capacity had been 42k for ages till northstand got knocked down?

I think the capacity was about 36,000 then but was reduced not long after. I have read fanciful tales from people who said their dad had told them the crowd was so tightly packed he couldn't light a cig. Yeah, sure...

26,000 crowd in a 36,000 capacity ground, eh?. Tightly packed ... let's think about this logically.

I would say it doesn't work out. You could only shoehorn about 23,500 of the fat bastards in there max.

Yes. But when someone was reminiscing about this on RH Gollum and someone else were saying things like you couldn't dn't get a cigarette paper between them. Usual RL bollox in the local media.

I believe Fc record attendance at the Boulevard is 36,000 for a cup game .

Just checked the Fc Wikipedia page and the record crowd at the Boulevard is 28,798 in 1936 v Leeds . Rugby city my arse . Looks like the combined record crowd of both Fc and rovers is nowhere near many of our big gates of the Carter era .

I was at that game where there was about 42K, but I think that was over capacity as many had to be around the cinder track around the pitch.

Pity there's no fans, he'd get a good welcome. Reading the article I'd forgotten all about having Mbokani for a while. Can't have been that memorable an experience!

Edit: just realised, it's an away game. Think I'll go back to bed! <doh>

City reserves often got bigger crowds then both fc and rovers in the mid 60's.
I've been in a 10,000 crowd for the reserves.
Remember reading that the reserves attracted over 20,000 one game when Neil Franklin first joined the club, late 40's ?
But it's a rugby town Gollum.
