Well said that man. By the way I'm the Barney lad sits in front of you at the SOL. Have you renewed, or are you waiting until crowds are back in numbers like I am?

What you claimed was that both Newcastle and Sunderland would go into administration if their owners stopped funding them. I just pointed out you were wrong. Have a nice day.

Neither club needs an owner then. They must be both self funding clubs.

Every club or business for that matter has to have an owner. You'd have to patently imbecilic to claim otherwise. And you are correct about being self funded, and by that I mean making enough money to cover your costs and make a profit. This may surprise you but most businesses operate like that.

i sometimes wonder how people think business' are run, i am no expert but i think i realise that every business needs to turn some profit, when this fails to happen due to unforseen circumstances such as we find ourselves in now and income bottoms right out, then the owner has to find a way to reach 'evens' at the very least, or be able/willing to fund from his/her own pocket, none will continue to do this indefinately and most will hope to sell reasonably quick even at a loss as constant pumping in of their own money could possibly result in higher losses down the line.

SD has never ever stated that he was mega-rich and that he had the funds to get us to the premier league, he did however, attempt to plan for the future by bringing sartori on board...the downside of his plan was that he just expected a club ther size of ours to 'walk' back into the championship, at which point i believe he would have listened to offers, instead, he failed to cover all avenues and is now at (in a business sense) a nasty position, his business is losing money weekly, it has cost him more funding than he originally hoped/planned, his hopes for 'instant' resale at much profit nosedived, then the virus decided to tw@t the only real form of income for a lower league club.

i believe he is hanging on by finger nails right now hoping to get his asking price but if the other 'players' are who we hope/hear they are then i think they know a damn sight more about 'putting the squeeze on' than he does, i also think they have offered a fair price as although we are still a div 3 club we are not short of willing investors, right now could be a battle of wills and tit for tat claims but my own honest opinion is that right now SD has little to no choice, sell now and get most(all?) of his money back, play hard ball a little longer hoping we keep racking points up, be prepared to lose an unknown amount on top of the loss of value on the club in the hope more offers come along, or keep hanging on hoping promotion is coming this season...personally i do not think he will take the risk as i do not think he has the sort of funds where he could simply write off such a loss (unlike Mr Short).

IIRC Ellis was 'just' a billionaire when he bought us and by the time he sold us he was just a millionaire! That's probably still nearly 999 million more than SD has so your point still stands!

Poor lads down to his last £860m but never mind, he’ll make it back I’m sure.

I think Ellis did his best, funded us without question, but made some poor appointments, I’ll not criticise him for trying to do the right thing, selling us to Stewie wasn’t his greatest moment as our owner but as I say I don’t think he deliberately tried to **** us over.

You know what they say about if you want to be a millionaire, be a billionaire and buy a football club.

Manshitty runs at a loss but the owners are more interested if the publicity and the image owning the club does for them.

Presumably the middle east mob who were going to buy the stunks were not bothered about a profit more about making themselves look good.

Ashley uses NUFC as an advert for Sports Direct and its impossible to quantify what that's worth.

In all honesty it's hard to see what else Ashley gets out of it.

I know nowt about finances and that but I'm sure I've read there's a tax benefit as well. Something along the lines of losses from one company in a group can be used to lower tax liabilities for profitable ones. So you can have a club, enjoy the prestige and benefits that come with it, and even get some benefits for your other companies off the back of it. That might all be bollocks mind but I've definitely heard its a thing
