Then he manages to compound the error by leaving the entire right side of his team open to robertson to run at for 15 mins and is 0-2 down before finally relenting and playing 441. they did "alright" for an allarydce or pulis type side but they had spent 200mil so to resort to that yet still try to pass out from your own goal line (and fail for the entire first half) thats just naive. I'm disappointed in Chelsea more than impressed with us. We did our job and stopped them getting out but didn't really create much. 3 easiest points of the season imo.
I refer you to kompany v salah 2 years ago. Pre VAR this game could have been decided by that ref bottling the call. At least with VAR the right decisions "sometimes" is made. This ref MIGHT have not been able to judge how close kepa was to the ball but the var angles showed he was miles away. the rules are quite clear, the ref must decide based on circumstances. How close is mane to goal, how likely is it that mane will get control of the ball and where are the defenders. There is no such thing as last man. For example, if the ref felts mane was unlikely to get control of the ball he might award yellow, or he might think kepa was going to get it before mane was in full control, or he might have decided it was far form goal so not a clear chance yet. In all 3 he was clearly wrong to think those things. mane needed one touch and was clear then past kepa who was in no position to block the ball or defend in any way and the goal was open to pass into. Kepa was at least 7 or 8 yards away by the side angle, a full stripe of the grass mower lines was between the two players when christensen rugby tackled. Once mane takes that easy touch the chip or to run around the keeper or the shot from where he is are all on.
