The sending off was harsh, it wasn't a straight red, we've all agreed that, but in the end their defence was their undoing. They should've thrown their coins at Atkinson. They have nothing to complain about, other than the poor refereeing decision.
Glad we won. Typical Derby - not a lot of good football as the result was the important factor. What happened to Downing? He appeared to go missing - again!
What was in the water bottles they were throwin!!!! Bitter..................sorry,couldnt resist that one
He hasn't been poor though. His crossing is usually good, he just goes missing a lot. I'm not as nervous to see him on the team sheet as I am with Adam for example. If anything he's exellent to have in depth.
In other news: Problems for Man City, with Sergio Aguero being forced off by a groin injury to be replaced by Samir Nasri.
The red card was harsh to be honest. However as us Liverpool fans know from the cup tie in January at OT, that even if the player gets the ball but his studs are showing, its a straight red. Thats the letter of the law. Before you mention Carragher at Anfield, you have to mention Rafael. Neither were sent off so that evens itself out.
But United are a better team than us. How can you compare their debuts?? I think Downing would have had just as good a debut had he signed for United. As for today, this is the first game in which I feel he's gone missing, he's been great in all the rest and his crosses have been excellent but there's only so much you can do when you're crossing to Carroll not Rooney. I also think it's harsh to say he was our second choice, I actually thing KK was looking at Downing more than Young and Mata as he is a proper out and out wide man, not an inside forward.
