They might look at the money we spent on Rodrigo and think sod anyone else with no experience of PL football and turn to the Norwich lad

I get that we fielded a reserve team last night and it was probably a good idea to assess what our strength is within the squad. Rather do it now in a cup game. I reckon it was a bit of an eye opener and shows that we do need some more quality.

I am still pissed off that we lost and more about the abject performance against a league one team. Winning or losing is habit forming but as it is really early days I'm hoping no lasting damage done.

Would still like 2 quality players in soon.

They will be in the U23s where they should be.

Do you have a point ? It was still our reserves and U23s.we played our reserve keeper who is 33,our outfield team was younger than yours, with none of our team that started against Liverpool, but I do realise beating our reserves is a great honour for little Hull.

The significance of the result for me is that it builds pressure on the next game in getting that first win of the season. I agree with whoever said it will help Bielsa in not having midweek matches to work on team cohesion and settling in the new signings.

With a player that cost 6 times the cost of our first team squad. It has taken a decade or so but you are above finally in a league above us. I hope you enjoy some of the hammering you will get when your lack of any strength in depth is exposed against all the clubs in the PL which are far bigger than you.

I hope you enjoy league 1 playing teams much bigger than Hull, you play one this W/E Crewe, they spanked you 4-0 last time you played them lol. When you were a prem team as well. <laugh>

PS since you don't seem to know you're 2 leagues below, so it's leagues not league above you <whistle>

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has defended his decision to make goalkeeper Kiko Casilla his captain for Wednesday's Carabao Cup defeat by Hull.

Who attacked him for this ??

See you in two decades (depending on your age) if you ever get back above again. Get the open bus top tour ready and Sky plus the commemorative documentary on your stunning win over our U23s <cheers>

Credit where it's due though Chesh, Hull were ahead of the times when it came to social distancing - they had no fans in their crappy prefab stadium long before clubs had to play behind closed doors, and their away support was well within the rule of 6 :emoticon-0136-giggl

Two decades? Nearly how long we were in front of you. I won't live Long enough to see you win the PL, play in a Cup Final or play in Europe. Neither will my 14 year old grandson who has seen us do w of those 3.

BTW, are there many Leeds fans actually from Leeds?

Thought I'd wait a bit to clear my head before commenting on last night. Sadly, I still can't make a lot of sense about it. It was a team failure. No, it was a catastrophic team failure. As for the cause, I'm still not sure if it was the Hull game plan / intensity that we couldn't cope with, or did we shoot ourselves in the foot? Did the team collapse cause some players to be simply awful, or was it some players playing awful that made the team collapse?

    I really don't know.

Only Bielsa's coaching team will know for sure, but I think I'll make a few comments about the player performance & outlook....

Casilla - being hailed by some Newsnow clowns, seemingly for making some routine saves. Howlers don't count, it seems. Sadly, he's confirmed that he hasn't changed. Time to go, Kiko. I'd rather have an inexperienced kid as backup.

Shackleton - oddly, the same Newsnow clown are making excuses for him, as apparently it was all because he was in an unfamiliar position. Funny how he's been great every other time in that unfamiliar position. Blip, imo.

Cresswell - won't ever want a performance like that again. I think he grew up loads last night, but not quickly enough. A lot of positives for him to take.

Davis - has always done well before, but as I recall, he's only played as a part of a 3 for the 1st team. Quite a step-up for him, and at best he was average. Bielsa has spent time converting him to a CB. My personal view is that he's always appeared much better as a LB, and is the fastest player in the squad. No brainer for me - play him at LB. He doesn't really have the strength to be part of a 2 imo. But what do I know? :)

Douglas - is a failure with us, pure & simple. It's long overdue to realise he'll never be consistently good, far less great. Time to go.

Casey - very sympathetic towards him. Baptism of fire as a CDM & if it's any consolation to him, KP has been hooked in the same manner too. We should forget this experiment - it's not the lad's fault.

Alioski - scored. That's about it. Admits himself that he was poor. I agree.

Roberts - headless chicken. Still totally undecided about him.

Bogusz - I'm the wrong person to assess him. Klich says he's a better player than himself, but I just don't see it. I wish the lad well, but I can't see why some think he's really gifted. God, I hope I'm soo wrong about this one.

Poveda - reminded me of Harrison when he started with us. Lots of trickery, no end product. Hope he doesn't read the NN clowns telling him how good he was. He wasn't. I don't care how many he can dribble by - I want that ball passed to one of ours.

Rodrigo - must be wondering what he's signed up for. Worked hard, but starved of opportunity. Bamford would have been similarly afflicted, which is probably why he didn't come on. Only one criticism - he must have pulled the arm of opposition players getting the better of him at least 6 times as they went by, trying to knock them off balance. Got to stop. Immediately.

Struijk - As many will know, I've been a great fan since I first clapped eyes on him in the u23s. The CDM thing has been new to me - and him. He did very well previously, both defensively, & spraying the ball about, surrounded by disciplined first teamers. He faced a different situation last night & improved us in the second half. But only defensively. No 60yd diagonals, killer passes etc. Not sure if that's because passes weren't on, due to us being out of our normal positions, or if it was Dull's doing. Would much prefer him as a CB. Just can't understand why McCalmont didn't start as CDM - after all, he's been KP's understudy.

Caveat: this is a subjective assessment, based on watching the telly. Due to this, can't make a full assessment as you can't see off-ball movement on the telly. For all I know, (let's say) Alioski was actually brilliant off-ball by creating space & opportunity for his team mates. We'll never know with the telly view (but I think I can guess about last night's shambles).

I've seen us 3rd in the Premier League a quarter of the way through a season, played in a Cup Final, played in two play-off finals and played in a semi-final all at Wembley and played in two games in Europe in the Europa League. That was all in the last 12 years. I started watching Hull City when they were in the Third Division so it certainly doesn't upset me being in League One. I am a fan and I'd never be so pathetic being a Billy Big Bollocks for what my team did. It's not like they did it due to me.

Good analysis WJ. I think our attitude was wrong from the off . With eleven changes it gives the players an excuse not to give it 100% because they then have the mentality that it's more or less a friendly, matters not win or lose. Whereas for Dull it was their cup final.

Agree about Rodrigo and his pulling players back - it's unnecessary. Maybe it's a La Liga thing and he got away with it there.

I can remember our Cup Final as it was only in six years ago and not nearly half a decade. :emoticon-0100-smile

Who was being a Billy Big Bollocks, Pete? Started going in 1963 when we were in Div 3. The most enjoyable days were when we were on Bunkers around 1970. We are back where we were when I started going. The past few years have been as enjoyable for being in front of supposedly big club Leeds as having our best period in many ways.
