To be fair he did say they had no interest last week. We then find out from the Exeter side that Peterborough had submitted a bid.
Relistened to the Grant interview yesterday, aware of what the said regarding fee agreed etc. But he just replied to Burnsy, 'yes, everything's agreed'. He didn't mention the selling club either which he's done numerous times in the past and the player he mentioned fits Mayer like a glove, granted fits Randell too. I just felt he was being completely vague and Mayer is deffo a back up to Wilks. Not sure Randall would be, more likely play on the left. He mentioned another potential incoming early this week, that one seemed much more like Randell, especially with what we've learnt since. At the weekend we knew that it was between us and Peterborough, he's clearly rejected them though so it's a one-way battle now.
5 days ago - no interest in Randell Williams. Today interest and bid from Peterborough confirmed by Exeter City Chairman.
HDM now claiming Peterborough, have pulled the plug on there offer to Exeter. although it maybe they are taking Peterborough chairman tweet at face value .
They have just taken that from Darragh MacAnthony’s latest tweet. That can be taken with a pinch of salt as well.
MacAnthony's normally very straight, I suspect Peterborough's interest had already ended before he tweeted five days ago. Exeter's chairman is obviously just trying it on, he was obviously aware that Peterborough were out when he made those comments.
Maybe the Exeter chairman was trying to engineer a bidding war? And the posh chairman has thought **** that. If other chairman know he has money from a sale they’ll try and up the bid?
Tbf look how the prices were hiked when we were in the premier league for players we showed an interest in .. its what happens in football .. you get a windfall and every man dog and their aunt want a bit of it
News of the Peterborough bid only came to light after MacAnthony made his first comment about no interest in Williams. Quite a few Posh fans commented that with transfers this is how he works. Denies interest, to then land the player he had denied interest in. He is normally straight talking. I do actually quite like him as he’s refreshingly open and communicates well with everyone.
Tbf doesn't he still have Barry Fry there as football director .. i'd be checking me fingers after I shook hands with him .. definite wide boy .. in all senses of the word !
Off topic, but if you'll just settle a domestic dispute for me. Bob Carver, was your uncle I think. I'm saying Carvers Patties we're actually fish cakes and they were in coated in bread crumbs, rather than batter. I don't just think I'm right, I know I'm right. Mz Kempton, was originally from Preston and she's trying tell me what a Bob Carvers Patty was like. Pfft...
