You are hard ****ing work (or thick), my point is Robbo is top drawer, Greeze added Matip, Milner and a couple of others. Are we both wrong?
Similar with Coutinho too. My guess would be that they're high earners and not seen as 'worth the return'. Don't know what deal James is on at Everton but suspect it'll be less than at Real and Bayern (although Everton have been trying to throw money at it fur a few seasons now too)
I wouldn't say those players are 'top draw' in the sense I was refering to the James signing. I think Greeze mentioned them because of price more than anything, two 'frees' and a cheap young Gomez. Is Robbo top draw?.........He certainly works well in our system. With the James thing I was thinking of other lets say creative midfielders in world football who I would class as top draw. Iniesta a few years back, Modric at his best, KdB.... that sort of quality. I don't see James in the same league as these, more a player who was a very promising young footballer on the world stage who just lost his way. Ancelotti may rekindle something in him but he will never reach the heights of the aforementioned.
TBH i class James with Goetze, had a great world cup and has failed to live up to it. Still think he is a class above most though and £12m (or £20m if you like) is an absolute bargain. He will make a big difference to Everton and would have to you too.
I'd say Robbo is "top draw". I wouldn't swap him for any other LB in the world and I consider him world class (a player that would get into a 'world squad')
Kopites? I think you are being very kind terming them as such. 99% of this lot wouidnt even know how to get to Anfield if they were standing on Breck road.
Yeah, Goetze is a good comparison. Promised alot more than he delivered. James will be a bargain IF he works. Apparently his injury record isn't great. If he had been a good fit for us he would be here now so no thanks on that one
Depends on how you see lived, Goetze has been shipped around in transfers, James in loans. Neither have played much for the clubs that bought into the hype.
OK, I purposely do not use the 'world class' tag because I feel it is way over used and thus misunderstood. We hear it every bloody week these days refering to a goal or a save or a pass or this or that. But going by your criteria (world squad)....yeah, Robbo may well be one of the best LB's around.
That's why i laugh when some of you **** about Arnold, he will never be a full back as long as he's got a hole in his arse (7 years after death i am reliably informed). Robertson on the other hand does as good a job going forward and is still a great full back. Before anyone mentions Bissaka, he is a fantastic full back but has absolutely no control of his legs going forward. Strange when you see his control in the tackle.
This is why I cringe when I hear TAA spoken of as world class. He works brilliantly in our system but has so much to learn and so much to improve on as a defender. Yes he is playing for one of the best sides on the planet right now but its all about fitting the right player into the right set up.
Agreed, that's why I justified my definition if world class. Not sure what else 'top draw' would mean though? In context of tbe discussion, he wasn't top draw / world class when we signed him.
