I see Honeyman is the new team scapegoat.

No idea why we always seem to need one, but we apparently need to have one player we always criticise no matter what they do.

Plenty of people thought otherwise. Look at the MOTM thread. The sports reporter and also whoever picks team of the week.

I thought he was poor last season, but you can’t argue with a win and two assists from Honeyman. Who apparently delivered very good set pieces. I’m prepared to cut him some slack. By all accounts he did very well.

That's fine, it's your opinion. But on the whole, a good chunk of our fanbase seems to have this mentality of constantly having one player to blame everything on regardless of how they play.

Meyler was the epitome of scapegoat, Irvine had it back when he was playing well, Angus got **** before it turned out he had cancer (which shut people up quickly), McShane had it, Henriksen, Marshall, etc. there's too many to list just since Bruce's reign began, never mind going back further!

Meanwhile, you had players like Koren, who I love, but would have games where he'd do **** all, bang one in the top corner from 30 yards, do **** all for the rest of the game, and people would act like he was Zidane. It's ridiculous sometimes.

I thought first half he was quite wasteful, too many simple balls either too heavy or just a tad too wayward - he improved second half though. T'was a great cross for the second goal though, it would have been rude not to nod that in. As you say, the stats get him in team of the week, would he have got in had they seen the match?

Not a huge honeyman fan, but Saturday he was very good and chipped in with 2 assists ( 1 for Def, not sure on the first goal )

Honeyman is a high tempo player, so he's more prone to mistakes. He'll also attract fouls as he's always pressing the opposition.

I think game vs Gills was one where a few showed a lack of match sharpness; Wilks and Burke too....

    Right or a number 10...
    straight from the nags mouth.

Grant McCann was pleased to welcome Austrian forward Thomas Mayer to the Hull City Training Ground in Cottingham earlier today.

Mayer joins the Tigers on an initial two-year deal to add competition amongst the forwards, and McCann is looking forward to working with the new signing.

“Thomas is someone who has been flagged up to us and we’re really pleased with the signing. The recruitment team have worked really hard to bring someone in who fits the way we want to play.

“We’ve seen quite a bit of him over the last six months or-so and it was a no-brainer,” said McCann. “He’s clever, he takes people on and he can create and score. He’ll bring a different dynamic to our team.

“We’re really pleased to have him. His best position is probably coming off the right or inside as a ten, so he’ll add some real flair and excitement for us.”

There is mixed news on the injury front for Hull City as they prepare to face rivals Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday evening.

The Tigers will do battle against their old foes for a spot in the third round of the Carabao Cup under the lights, and boss Grant McCann is expected to make changes following a hectic start to the campaign, which shows no sign of slowing down.
Striker Tom Eaves picked up an injury in the round one victory over Sunderland earlier this month, departing the Stadium of Light with his foot in a protective boot.
Thankfully for Eaves, and City, his injury isn’t as bad as first feared, with McCann hopeful his frontman will return to play some part before the end of next month.
“We’ve got a bit of a better picture on it. We’re probably looking at four weeks or so until Tom could be back,” McCann told BBC Humberside.
There was a more positive outlook on goalkeeper George Long, who McCann expects to be ready to feature in midweek, having missed the start of the campaign with a knock collected in training.
“He’s not far away, he was very close to coming (to Gillingham). I’d imagine George will be back for Wednesday,” said the Tigers boss.
Wednesday’s Yorkshire derby will be the Tigers’ fourth outing in the space of two weeks, and with Crewe to come this weekend, McCann says he will assess the shape of his squad early this week before deciding what sort of side will turn up at Elland Road.
“The games are coming thick and fast, and the league is the most important for us this season.
So we’ve got to look at the squad, look at the freshness in the group and see who is right to go on Wednesday.
It’s very hard to go Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday-Tuesday, so we’ll see how they are (on Monday morning).”

Hull City’s transfer window shopping spree shows no signs of slowing down, as boss Grant McCann looks to build a squad capable of sealing promotion back to the Championship.
The City chief hopes to add more attacking flair to his squad, to complement the likes of Keane Lewis-Potter, Josh Magennis and the injured Tom Eaves.
It’s expected McCann will complete a signing in the coming hours and in advance of Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup trip across Yorkshire at Elland Road, though that is understood not to be Randell Williams from Exeter at this stage.
And the business won’t stop there if McCann gets his way, though he says he will remain patient to ensure he brings the right players into the KCOM Stadium, having been impressed by those given a chance in Saturday’s dominant 2-0 win at Gillingham. We’re still trying, we wanted to bring in one or two in the forward areas to give us more of a boost,” he told BBC Humberside.
“We’re still trying in the number eight position, so we’re hoping to have some more news – not just this one coming in on Monday, but hopefully some more (this week).
If not, we’re going to have to be patient with one or two because some clubs aren’t keen on losing them just yet.
We may have to be patient, but look, seeing that (performance against Gillingham) shows me that some of the boys are grasping this opportunity.”

So the BIG Monday signing, that had a “fee” agreed, turns out to be a free transfer! The FT I’m not bothered about, but why say about a fee in the first place?
I could put up with McCant & the rest of the head office people if they didn’t just outright lie.
I’m not bothered whether a player costs £10 million or is free, just be honest with the fans!

I hadn't realised he said that, I just heard him say it would be permanent.
