Semantics might argue that some excess deaths come from other conditions for which treatment has been impacted by the isolation restrictions imposed by the pandemic ... for which Covid is therefore still a factor.

However, the vast majority of excess deaths have arisen from respiratory conditions, which Covid has unquestionably exacerbated even if there were pre-conditions.

The plague originated in London ... the outbreak in Eyam is thought to have been caused by a wagonload of infected garments that came from London... presumably some 'entrepreneur' picked up the clothes etc on the cheap (guess why) and thought he could make a killing ... certainly did. <rose>

I thought the plague originated in China? (Yes, really), and made it’s way into Europe via Italy (yes, really)?

Now you've confused me, not sure what that has to do with the origins of the song, which was the part I was responding to.

There are many references to the "Roses of Eyam" ... hence the link ...the nursery rhyme first appeared in print in the 1880s ... but apparently similar rhymes existed much earlier ...

Fair enough. I've always personally associated it with the great plague, and never doubted it until recently.

It's the same thing mate ... the Great Plague originated in London in 1665 and the local outbreak in Eyam was in the same year caused by those garments from London... to stop it spreading they closed themselves off until it claimed it's toll.

I used to think the Great Fire of London wiped out the Great Plague, but apparently that's not true either!? Although be it the fire would have destroyed the unsanitary conditions they lived in at the time.

The plague ran it's natural course ... the fire did actually destroy a lot of public records about the plague ... actual recorded deaths etc meaning a lot of what we know is estimates and conjecture...

It was probably the only bit of history I was interested in at school, black death and a big fook off fire <laugh>

Then they went on about Kings & Queens, so boring!

@remembercolinlee is it your daughter that works in a pub?

I seem to remember you saying that, and how this groups of 6 stuff is gonna affect us.

Wetherspoons has revealed a total of 66 members of staff have caught coronavirus since the pub chain reopened.

The company said it had reported 66 positive COVID-19 tests among its 41,564 employees since they returned to work from July.

Surely you are overlooking some minor detail; wouldn't you need to apply for permission to run a company from your home. Even so, you would then need company insurance. Adherence to health and safety regulations.

Anyway I don't see the point, it's not difficult asking people to stick to some rules.

I hope you are ****ing kidding <grr> ... if not ****ing unbelievable... so a 'ritual' based upper class rave where some dumb animal dies is fine? <doh>...

.... only redeeming factor is that it would therefore appear that Michael Gove is now fair game <laugh>
