Hello and welcome to the official match thread for the 216th Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool.
Preview.
I'll start with the home team.
Everton have had a solid start to the season. They sit 11th with 7 points from 5 games. Depsite David Moyes having to sell key players again, they have picked up some good results this season. The deadline-day departures of Mikel Arteta to Arsenal and Jermaine Beckford to Leicester City have weakened a sqaud already low on numbers but Everton still have players like Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini who are quality players.
And onto the away team.
Liverpool have also had a solid start to the season. We are sitting in 5th position with 10 points from 6 games. Good results against Arsenal and Bolton early in the season gave Liverpool a good foundation to bulid on but disappointing results against Stoke City and Spurs mean that the three points are vital to make sure that we keep the chase for the Champions League places. If we are unchanged from last week, there will be six players who will be experiencing the Merseyside derby for the first time. However, players like Charlie Adam will have been in the Old Firm derby and Jose Enrique, Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll have all been involved in the Tyne-Wear derby.
Team/Injury News.
Everton boss David Moyes is hopeful that Tim Cahill will recover from the bruised shin he suffered during last week's 2-0 defeat by Manchester City. Victor Anichebe is the Toffees' only long-term casualty with a groin injury.
Steven Gerrard is likely to be on Liverpool's bench, but Daniel Agger is set to miss out despite returning to training after suffering a broken rib. Glen Johnson is also back in training as he recovers from a hamstring problem, but will be absent again.
