Summer transfer money will be put aside to pay off Jose So that’s next summer up the ****ter too January is always a bit meh anyway owner needs to put hands in his pockets and get in a player to light the place up I know it’s not happening but still plus I think Jose would take Kane off..he’s never really had any competition..well in his comfort zone. Yes his stats are great over his career but it’s about the bounce an individual brings in the moment...that ability to take the game by the scruff of the neck...that’s the type of player he is trying to be and for me a true world class player will do that. Kane has world class moments but I dunno I think the lack of competition has affected his game, if anyone understands what I mean. We can say he’s starved of supply and he is but still he doesn’t look on his game...that header from the corner..he shied away and it hit the top of his head. Not telling the man how to do his job like but I felt as though he didn’t attack it with conviction....little things but say a lot when looking at the bigger picture imo of a players confidence levels and mindset.
That is exactly what Jose is trying to get them to do. Until Oct 2nd you will not improve much then you will see a lift until January. It's not the managers fault, the players just aren't good enough for a competitive PL, Ali needed to be sold 18/24 months ago whilst his stock was still high, Kane is a fantastic clinical striker but far from a combative team player, Son again is fantastic on the ball but virtually invisible when the other team has it. Jose likes his players to be both good on the ball and chase it down when off it. Toby is 2 years out of date and Dier is not a CB, your midfield is sorely lacking any bite. Unfortunately you have a soft team at the moment and a change of manager will make little difference to that.
I don’t have any worries over Kane. I think he is world class. It’s someone like Son who has world class moments but isn’t world class. I think Lewandowski/ Aguero would’ve had the exact same type of game as Kane today due to the **** he had behind him and Jose’s tactics. It’s gotta be depressing looking behind you at various stages of that game and seeing Winks, Sissoko, Hojbjerg and a gash Dele tasked with getting the ball into you. Son also should’ve played in Kane on that counter instead of Dele, Kane finishes that with his eyes shut.
The manager isn’t blameless though. The likes of Dier and Toby have signed new contracts under Jose so he clearly sees something in them and they’ve clearly been given assurances by him. Regardless of how I feel about Winks, he got in the XI having missed most of pre-season yet Sissoko, Gedson and White all featured prominently and they were either on the bench or out the squad, where’s the logic in that? Same for Sessegnon not making the squad either despite looking pretty good in pre-season. Kind of felt like our pre-season was pointless. I really do want it to work out for Jose because the guy does know how to win and I think he inspires a lot mentally too but his selection and tactics today were dreadful, seriously dreadful and the loss is largely down to him. He definitely needs more backing though. Bale would break our wage barrier and go against what the club generally looks for but we need that added superstar. Beefing up other areas is also a must, most importantly another striker to ensure we don’t burn Kane out yet again.
You missed the very first thing i said about being stuck with this until Oct 2nd. It's Jose's way of showing the board that he needs players. After that date your form will suddenly improve. Unfortunately with the players at his disposal not dramatically.
I think competition is vital for every position to get the ultimate best out of a player. Maybe even Kane can improve to another level if he has something to think about. ultimately we should prosper from that situation but to not even have a second striker yet again is negligent. It’s only game 1 so I’m not going to lose my **** quite yet...hope it’s a wake up call for manager and players
That’s a very risky way to go about things though. We’re not a team who can afford these sorts of defeats as a way to make a statement to the board because they’ll often come back to bite us at the end of the season. I think Jose himself needs to understand he’s not at a club where he’ll always get his first choice like he has done everywhere else, he’s gotta meet us in the middle and find a way to a) bring in suitable players within our budget but also b) get the best out of what he has. Today was only one game but he failed to do b) with his decisions.
Completely agree he needs competition, every player does and it’s something we need to sort ASAP. In fairness I think Kane is at a level that’s very hard to surpass, I genuinely think he’s only bettered by Lewandowski as a natural central striker (unless we count Ronaldo these days). It really does need to be a wake up call. Everyone was off their game today - manager and players - and that’s worrying for me. Should be going into a new season buzzing and yet this felt like an end of season dead rubber between two sides who can’t finish higher or lower than 9th or 10th place.
Seriously, who would you have changed in his starting line up and what extra do you think they would have brought to the game? I will start you off with GLC, creativity and a bit of bite.
I said the other day my choice of XI would’ve been: Hugo Doherty, Toby, Dier, Davies Sissoko, Hojbjerg, Ndombele Bergwijn, Kane, Son I feel that 433 gives us more balance, Sissoko and Hojbjerg to do the leg work, helps cover Doherty’s forward runs and Ndombele’s lack of mobility whilst Bergwijn carries a greater goal threat than Lucas who’s just far too inconsistent. In terms of bench options, I’d have had Sessegnon for sure, ideally Jack Clarke too who impressed me in pre-season but he played for the U23s the day before (as did White, who would’ve done no worse than Winks today). It’s not just because I don’t rate Winks as a player but there’s no way he could’ve been anywhere near match fit today, didn’t make sense to have him over Sissoko and exclude Gedson from the squad. Would’ve made more sense to me to have give Winks a run out against Plovdiv in midweek.
Do you think when we were at our best circa 2017...he used to be able to grab the game a bit more than he has done the last 18 months? I think that’s what might get another level out of him...he needs the supply though I guess and he had that then too.
To be honest not really, we were just a far better team back then so everyone looked to be at a higher level. Eriksen was arguably the best 10 in the league and we had Dembele keeping the play flowing. That was when Dele was also at his best too. Rose and Walker would bomb the wings. We had CBs that could defend. It was a complete team in my opinion, let down only by lack of squad options. Kane still keeps his level of consistency in my opinion but like most players, he need the right players around him. It’s kind of like how Messi is still phenomenal but he was on another planet when he had Xavi and Iniesta plus a younger Suarez as well as Neymar in his side.
One thing we all missed with the squad numbers being announced the other day: CCV also doesn't have one
Levy is made of teflon, he is a slippery so and so, he does not care what anyone thinks of him or how he runs the club. To Levy, it is his and Uncle Joe's business and they will run it how they see fit. Which unfortunately for us fans, will always be in favour of balance sheet success rather than on field success. Mourinho is already visibly pissed off at the lack of a capable squad to start the season and Levy`s games of transfer window poker. Our squad is lacking creativity, a CF and quality throughout, Rodriguez ran the show for Everton yesterday, a player that would have been ideal for us, instead we had Winkssoko adding their sprinkling of mediocrity to proceedings. Harry Kane wants us to challenge for the title, we have no chance of that under these miserly owners, and this will almost certainly be Kane`s last year with us.
