How the hell can someone have a contract that rewards them for being sh1te at their job? If it was me performing badly or refusing to work I would be out of a job & no pay off. It's just mind boggling.

I think Peter Reid was once asked what one piece of advice would you give a manager new to the game. His reply was

Never resign. Greedy bastards the lot of them.

You never know - with financial reality beginning to hit the game, performance related clauses may well start to be seen. If they don't already exist.

I think Quinny said that he was on a pretty basic wage but the bonuses were unbelievable when he played under Reid.

I can't see Bruce resigning, as it's all about the money.

But given that he only got that new contract in January (I think?), given what a successful businessman Short is, is it not possible that there's a performance related clause?

Everythings about the money mate and that inevitably will be the downfall of the game it's been coming for a while now Tevez is by no means the start the managers who get millions for failure started this off but, no one will have a pop at them.

Personally I think the contracts are so watertight on favour of managers and players it has to be a pretty serious offence for the club to take action and avoid a pay out. Look at Tevez, apparently the lawyers a combing through his contract as we type to see what if anything can be done.

Maybe re the players, but it's possible to build in performance clauses more easily with managers, surely?

PS - re your signature - yes, if it's gone midday.

And that is what is killing the game. It's very very sad as I am rapidly falling out of love with the game; that and we ain't too great at the moment :p

Interesting thought - if we were "top four", would you care how much dough they got?

Yeah I would. It's about the game not the money. They can get jobs after their careers are over like the rest of us have too. Too much football on tv as well. The clubs are losing a generation of fans, it's too easy to switch tv on and just sit and watch footy. In the 70's when I were young I remember that the fa cup final was the only live domestic game and what a spectacle it was no matter who was playing. It was a an all day family thing.

F.A. Cup Final day was something else when I was a kid (just a bit older than you). Didn't matter who was playing, did it, as you say?

There were occasional internationals, too, if I recall properly.

The "Showbiz Eleven" were really popular cos they were just about the only other live football.

Certainly was. I can't actually remember when I watched an fa cup final, must be at least 6-7 years ago. In fact I couldn't even tell you who was playing.
