Have to go with Hukum in the Leger, to give trainer Owen Burroughs a Group 1 success. Good performance in the Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury. We'll Just have to wait and see whether or not he can produce that sort of finish in this extended 1-3/4 mile Group 1. I certainly hope he can.

Just a thought. It's a good job we all don't post copies of betting slips, and the like, on here, otherwise the poor old DT would be littered with the damn things?

Job done for Chindit, travelled well, never looked like losing the race, front 3 came clear but don't think we've seen the Guineas winner there, nice 2yo though, very professional since day 1 and not sure how much improvement he has in him for next year.

Nice enough for Chindit and I much preferred him to favourite Albahseer, who won by daylight on debut but beat nothing. Some pointed to winners coming from the race but they were poor races and nurseries off low marks and the second and third in the race were 4th off 78 in a nursery and last of 8 at odds-on in a novice when they next ran, so the warning signs were there.

Not 2000 Guineas form by a long way though. The third was rated 100 and hasn't been beaten far today and he could only finish fourth to Chief Little Hawk in the same race Devious Company ran in over in Ireland. I had said that that race was game over for Devious Company's season and Dascombe was really clutching at straws running the horse here after ripping the guts out of him in two close together sales races over 6F. Not good placing I feel. Chief Little Hawk went up 8 lbs for winning that sales race but that was clearly bullplop and he stank when second favourite next time.

Well short of 2000 Guineas quality form but Chidit has won three in a row and done well for his stable.

Low key day for me, Just Santiago ante-post at 12/1 for the Leger and I feel he's still the one to beat, I thought he looked below par in the Irish Derby and never travelled the way I expected he would but he was much better next time into the frying pan against Stradivarius. In theory he should have had a chance getting the weight he was from the older horses but Stradivarius is a law unto himself in the way he goes about things and the runner up there, Nayef Road, is a solid horse, which is more than can be said for plenty of the ones other Leger contenders have been beating.

I was thinking about a saver on Galileo Chrome, who was impressive as a stayer when winning last time and I mentioned then that he wouldn't be out of place in a St Leger or Melbourne Cup but he's 4/1 now and Santiago 7/2, so I still feel Aidan's horse is the value today. I have suspected all along that Pyledriver will puncture at this trip and the Grand Prix De Paris was a better fit in my opinion and the 226,000 Euro pot for winning that was not to be sneezed at but never mind. I feel Hulum looks a shade overrated on 114 for winning the Geoffery Freer and that was a 17 lbs rise on his previous form, I just don't buy into that and although he has more than earned his place today, the odds are all wrong in my opinion.

In the end I have gone in again at 7/2 Santiago to top up the bet made at 12/1 after he won the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot.

    3.35 Doncaster Santiago 7/2 and 12/1 (AP)

    Go on my son.

I think Pyledriver will get every yard but the poor bugger has to carry my shilling!

The Park Stakes is a tricky one. Molatham's Jersey win has not worked out at all well and Wichita seems to have lost his way. Limato showed he's still got some spunk at his ripe age (Bit ironically as a gelding) but his stable are out of sorts at the moment, and in general with an annual batting average little better than 5%.

One Master is a bit in and out at various trips but 7F is her best distance and finishing off a strong pace is her bag. With doubts about plenty in the race it seemed worth a chance that things would fall right for the Haggas mare in a smallish field and 7/2 seemed the bet to me.

3.00 Doncaster One Master 7/2 to swoop.

I took a chance on Liffey River at a price later on. Cadillac failed to live up to a stunning debut last time and my worry is that Mac Swiney, who beat him, hasn't looked great thus far. The others looked much of a muchness and on a better surface today, I was hoping to see more from Liffey River, whom I had backed on his debut at 12/1 and he was just edged out by a head. No price next time but better odds for a bet today,

3.40 Leopardstown Liffey River 8/1 for some value hopefully.

Thank fk for Champers - thought Chindit was going to be my only one today. :)
Good ride from Colin Keane - ok he had the horse to do it, but timed it to perfection

Well done, you were quite right with Hukum. He ran as best as he could but came up short in this Group 1. Great run by Galileo Chrome and very well-ridden by young Tom Marquand. What a lucky ride for him! Oh, you were also right again with Pyledriver. although he did well to finish third. Santiago a big disappointment.
