Whilst always wanting the cuddlies to win if we get off to a good start would that strengthen SD's position at all. If so f*ck it lets just draw the 1st few games thus hopefully weakening his position.
Personally I’d rather Donald stayed and we got promoted than he left and we didn’t. So I’ll take 3 points all day today please.
Wonder if nick barnes has any further updates. I think he did say he was hoping to find out more this week.
Based on what @Smug in Boots posted this morning about hearing talks moving onto next stage which is around contracts and who can be moved on etc, and @Prehab26 saying that he hears next meeting might be on Tuesday or Wednesday - it’s unlikely we hear anything until then at the absolute earliest. And even then it feels like we are a long way from an announcement if they’ve not finished due diligence, and perhaps even not quite at a finalised price until all due diligence done. the upshot is we have to stay patient and concentrate on the lads having a cracking start to the season. Let’s face it, we all want a takeover mainly so that we can get out of the hole we are in. There are broader problems for sure but I’m going to try to focus on the football now we are back up and running and trust that the takeover takes care of itself in the coming weeks / months.
I wouldn't be surprised if NB didn't have some kind of an update today bearing in mind he said that he's conscious many supporters aren't on twitter etc therefore his match day slot on the radio would reach the most supporters at the same time. Here's hoping anyway.
Each to their own but Parkinson just doesn’t cut it for me even in this league. He had an abysmal start last season a purple patch from just before New Year to mid Feb and back to garbage in the last few games before lockdown. Expecting us to win today and we played well last weekend but we were hamstrung by some poor finishing and by his poor use of subs which was also a feature of last season. We’ve got an opportunity to freshen things up in a pedestrian midfield which I fear he won’t be brave enough to take. I’ve still got concerns about both full back positions and our keepers genuinely worry me. I’m hoping that the new regime will have fresh ideas in terms of management and the academy and those currently in the positions are replaced sooner rather than later.
I'm backing Parkinson but not convinced by him. Agree that subs are in an issue - never wanting to grab the initiative and change a game. A positive is that he is setting us up to be a lot more attacking. Wouldn't be surprised if the attacking intent disappeared after a bad result though.
If we aren't looking like going up automatically during the season, then Parkinson should go. If we are in the top 2 from the off, then pointless rocking the boat for no reason. Getting out of the league by whatever means/style of football has to be the sole priority.
Looking forward to a time when threads like this are finished and everyone is just concerned about the football
Agree with this. He's here now, he's no doubt had a big say in the signings, would be pointless getting rid of him now (unless rich new owners randomly wanted someone mint and could afford them). I'd see how it goes with Parkinson but with the clear remit that we need to go up this season. I want to see us comfortably in the top two by Christmas , we simply can't afford to take the gamble of the play offs. If we're scratching around the play off places with only the vague "well we're only 6 points off second" or whatever then I'd get rid. We should be looking to win the league, with second being the only just acceptable minimum. Anything else, any suggestion that we're simply one of the best 8 or so sides and "anyone could get the second place spot" whilst competing with the likes of Fleetwood and Oxford then **** him off.
Agreed. Despite what others say about deserving to be in this league, we shouldn’t be. I always remember that 100 Years in the Football League video that came out back in the 1980s. There’s a part in there showing the team winning the Div 3 title and passing around the trophy. It goes to Gordon Armstrong, he gives it the obligatory kiss and I can see him mouthing the words “division three” with a big smile on his face. That scene was indicative of what our club had become. We had players ecstatic that we had come top of the third division. They ought to have been embarrassed that the club had sank that low. Until that winning attitude comes back throughout the whole club then **** all is going to change. There’s a reason that the most successful clubs are successful. They don’t accept mediocrity.
And there’s a word that they all use. “Hopefully”. “Hopefully and with a bit of luck we’ll get promoted” “Hopefully I can do my bit to get us up the top” It’s everything that’s wrong with the club. They accept being where they are. Aye and hopefully one day I’ll wake up and be a multi billionaire with more lasses than I can eat but until that day happens I’ll continue working hard. What they should be saying is we’re going to get out on that pitch and tear the opposition apart and make them understand that there’s no room for losers out there.
