So Roman says he doesn’t do business with Spurs but bid £45million for Modric only for Levy to say no and sell him to Real Madrid for a lot less a year later. Jog on Roman
Best hope that Danny Rose isn't Googling last season's Serie A table, where he'd discover that Genoa finished below Cagliari with 39 points to their 45 It has to be said that Genoa is also a team filled with players who never lived up to their potential: Mattia Destro, Stefano Sturaro, Valon Behrami, Lasse Schone, Domenico Criscito, Cristian Zapata, Federico Marchetti and Goran Pandev - basically they're an Italian West Ham, while Cagliari are more of an Italian Burnley
Pandev is 9,000 years old, to be fair. He was good for Nazio back in the 80s. It seems like that's when he played for them, anyway.
Let's see what today brings... So Daka is happy to collect his taurine money knowing he'll get a pay bump a year from now when he's loaded onto the conveyor belt to Leipzig, Milik's still in play although Napoli are demanding a large fee for Milik because they think we haven't seen the €70m Osimhen-shaped hole in their finances and/or they know Koulibaly is off but are getting their spending done first before anyone realises they can negotiate Napoli's fees down, and Mars Bar Boy isn't convinced in joining a club who actually wants him
Jose confirmed he wants a striker and thinks the club will sign one. Says the hierarchy (presuming Jose and Hitchen) want a striker too. Also mentions about Rose and Genoa and that he has Davies and Sess - an investment they (the club) want to improve - so it’ll be tough for Rose here.
Milik’s been left out of Napoli’s squad to face Pescara. Usually I’d think “oh hello” but this happened in January with Willian Jose and nothing materialised so I’m not getting ahead of myself
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54116459 "I don't like that word 'back-up'." "I know we have one of the best strikers in the world. The best striker in England. But I don't like the word 'back-up'. A squad is a squad." "A striker can play with Harry Kane. A striker who comes here won't be filling the back-up situation." "It's not to support us in such a difficult season. It's also to try and play. And why not play with Harry?"
Milik will like the sound of that! All seriousness I think Jose’s played that well, openly saying that will give a boost to any potential target over initial concerns about potential game time. I don’t see us playing 2 up top too often but it’s nice to know Jose sees it as an option and the reality is, providing we don’t balls it up, there’s a load of games that Kane and the new guy can share with regards to starts.
The other day Berbatov straight up said, if he was a player today, he wouldn't join us as he knows that Kane is the main man What does help us in regards to Milik is he's been a super sub ever since he left Ajax in the summer of 2016 - Mertens was the preferred starting option up top for Napoli - Lewandowski is the preferred starting opinion up front for Poland, with Piatek also in the mix That's why I've been saying we should be taking a damn good look at him since his name was first linked with us in March/April, because he's basically the player we hoped Janssen could have been but the difference is that Janssen was a punt on potential, Milik actually has proven form
This is both true and understandable, although Berbatov did join when we had plenty of options up front. Mido joined after him in the same summer, but we already had Keane and Defoe. We also played with two up top, so he could be confident of starting regularly. We're probably not going to sign a striker at his peak from one of the top 4 leagues where he's playing regularly and banging them in. That's the position Berbatov was in at Leverkusen at the time. He'd scored 19, 26 and 24 in the previous three seasons and was playing virtually every game for a top six German side. That doesn't explain why we can't seem to bring in anyone at all, though. Southampton have four senior strikers on their books. We can't manage two? I don't buy it.
And neither do Spurs so it seems although Milik looks hopefull if Levy puts in a bit more than loose change.
great news!! Apparently we’re on the verge of signing a striker!!.... (... USA legend Alex Morgan for the ladies team)
Totally! Outweighed by the fact he’s taken years to sort out the same position in the men’s team, though!
Ive said this for years, back up striker is disrespectful and also could make Kane complacent. Kane needs competition and Spurs need someone decent not just an emergency player that only gets minutes when Kane can’t play
Kane’s too professional to ever get complacent, otherwise he’d have already gotten complacent by now.
