They will need to be sufficiently ‘diverse’ before the Academy will consider them. This is properly shocking. It smacks of identitarian McCarthyism. The Academy says that only movies that include a desirable number of people from various ethnic and social groups will be considered for the film of the year award. The ‘diverse’ groups that must be included are women, people of colour, LGBTQ people and people with disabilities. This is a powerful showbusiness body using its mighty clout to pressure artists into depicting the ‘right’ kind of people and telling the ‘right’ kind of story. It’s a kind of woke tyranny. If your movie doesn't have negroes, pooves, trannies or flids represented by the screenwriter, the film crew or the cast you can kiss your Oscar goodbye. As of 2024 you stand little chance of winning the gold statue if you are a straight and able honky. Even if you knock your performance out of the park I expect the Woke brigade to belittle your efforts if someone fitting the criteria isn't also recognised and honoured. A film about the Irish Famine for example would need to have darkies ****s and mongs to be considered for an Oscar? They would need to stop making historical films.
Does it mean a film about Africa has to be filled with white folk? If you want an Oscars, a film about London stabbings or looting in the US is nailed on for a ltitle gold fella. Hmm I realise 'Oscar' brings in no legged murderer's but shouldn't it be a one legged black woman?
