I have said this right from the start....this is not an overt criticism more an observation

In December last year the country voted for Brexit, and gave Boris a mandate.
Boris elated, got him self a government of people, who on the Tory side had been chosen with one eye on getting Brexit done. A lot of the heavyweight career politicians left the government. These were people like Kenneth Clarke (who love him or not) knew how to run a business how to run a department. Boris was left with a lot of young inexperienced yes men.

Boris chose his cabinet from people who supported him, Brexiteers. All governments do, that is the point...you get your own people in!
But they were inexperienced at running a government...but it was ok , they only had one job to do...Get Brexit done.

    Then the pandemic came.

No-one had any idea, no-one had experience. There was no-one to say...this is the logistics of making big changes, this is how you keep departments, the opposition and the population on board. Boris (love him or not, and you know my view) was at the start arrogant and did not really take it seriously, he was still talking about Brexit at packed meetings when other countries were in lockdown.
A dose of Covid may have changed his mind.

But now..the government is just a set of knee jerk reactionaries. And this pandemic has been just one U-turn and disaster after another and it has not finished yet

For the above reasons, I am not sure Corbyn would have done better...he would have got his own inexperienced croonies in to.
(I would have loved to have thought that he may have done a few things like the care homes and the whole looking after the front line workers differently, but I am not sure he would)
What we should have got in was a crossparty cabinet to deal with just the social, health and economic problems of Covid19.

    Boris would never go there.
    Nor would Corbyn.

It is too late now, we are in a social mess, which will get worse as the effects of Covid and Brexit kick in.
Social unrest is on its way

I have bought a lot of toilet rolls, tins of baked beans....and on the advice of this board plasterboard (it was what was really in short supply during total lockdown).
No idea what you do with plasterboard!

The mother in law has been under the weather from yesterday and had a slight temp and a poorly disguised cough! She's adamant it isnt coronavirus. One of my sister in laws is a nurse and is presently trying to book a test for her. It's a nightmare, she puts in all the details, gets to which test centre option and then it fails to load. Tells you to refresh as its busy then fails to load. Been the same for an hour and a half now!

Excellent post Beth. Plasterboard goes with a chicken dinner, sits nicely next to broccoli!

Beth, what's your view on these latest restrictions and the way the statistics are being read?

All, with one or two exceptions, must be me and Watford.

A lot of people are saying a lot of things. Some feel it is well intentioned error, others feel it is malicious, others downright evil.

Bob, I’ve been the same since 130pm....and at exactly the same place I think (showing no test sites found).
I’ve been told it’s a matter of keep trying and refreshing, and that slots for tomorrow are released at about 8pm.....good luck mate.

I did not find the news flash on my phone ( android and old huwae honor) when I looked sometime ago..it may have come through as a single line flash "breaking news,"

To be honest I can't quite remember what the discussion was exactly about.
Other than the newsflash seemed to say something which the next morning was different

    I cannot even

It seems very obvious we are getting more cases, but it is in a population of people earlier in the pandemic were not being tested for various reasons.

I really would like to know how many positives are assymptomatic, how many have mild disease.
At the start we were only testing people who were ILL usually coming to hospital...how many young positive people were there then.

I hope there were loads, and perhaps our herd immunity is rising, faster than we know.

The statistics can say anything you want.

The other thing I want to know, is how severe the disease is. E.g when we last had 3000-4000 cases a day...how many were in ICU.
Is the strength of the infection decreasing.
Are we just now picking up more mild cases

Having said that we have heard here about a person (?steel's wife) with mild disease now affected by chronic disease

When I got time I will go back on my computer and search...
Would not like to cost you a fiver.

Was it about wearing masks in school classroom, because that has come to pass...in our area. And we are not under special measures yet

It was concerning the government making it mandatory for face masks to be worn in all schools, which you said the government first put out, then the fact they changed their mind and said it was only in areas of special measures (a very quick u turn).
However my mate said that was bollox and I shouldn’t listen to all I’m told on a message board.....I bet him a fiver I could prove him wrong.....I couldn’t....I lost a fiver
I assume your area/school has made its own decision on face masks as I thought it was still not mandatory ?

With respect Beth, that's just another bunch of questions.
Which, I suppose, sums up how difficult this thing is to call.

Slightly surprisingly the wearing of masks in shops in Wales only became mandatory today

One of the few areas that all 4 countries of the not so United Kingdom actually have in common
