Some of them can. If your browser wants to install something, then be suspicious.
Veetle player is OK, but get it from veetle.com rather than clicking OK to any
browser download or ActiveX messages. I only use links which use Windows
media player and don't need plugins, but you can't tell until you click a link
as most streaming host sites have links to all sorts of streams - some need
plugins, some don't.

 

I use the sopcast & veetle links through freefootball.eu, that way they should be virus free
