What is going on with Kamui Kobayashi recently? He had a sensational start to the season, and got himself linked to a lot of big drives, but since he re-signed for Sauber, his performances, and overall driving, have been lacklustre. Look at singapore, he finished a lap behind Perez, and picked up a penalty, something rare for him. It's as if Sauber have killed his spirit, the attacking drives seem to have gone, in favour of boring endurance based strategies. Hopefully he can come back to form in Japan, where he had an outstanding drive last season, giving an overtaking masterclass.

What do you think? Are his poor performances his own doing, or are Saubers strategy calls hindering him? It's a shame to see a great driver meandering around towards the back of the field. I don't think there's a single F1 fan who wants to see him struggle.

I'm sure theres at least 7 fans in the world who want to see him struggle ;)

The Sauber at the moment seems to be weak in the area's that Kobi pushes hard, basically the car is designed for someone completely different to him, for no apparent reason.

I think he's royally shot himself in the foot resigning for sauber. If he hadn't signed, he could have the Williams or FI drive next season, both are likely to be better than sauber next year.

Its a long shot (and an idea with no substance) but maybe he's hoping Saubers Ferrari engine link with help him get a seat in a Ferrari. Ignoring the fact Perez exists.

    Its Sauber themselves.
They have fallen down the pecking order in the constructors and have also had ****ing disastrous strategies such as Hungary this year.
I dont know why he has signed for Sauber again though when Perez although just as good is more likely to get a seat from the top teams.

Sauber as a team are going backwards unlike Force India for example. Also that Kamui likes to attack and not just worry about tyres from the word go, it's a shame really, but Perez seems to like that kind of mindset.

Lets not forget Perez has the millions backing him so the team could just be developing the car around Sergio while Kamui is chucked in the deep end trying to run the team as number 1 for this year.

Who knows? but something isn't working anymore because Kamui isn't getting the points like the first half of the season. As I said in a previous post, he was easily on target to beating his last season tally of points (27), now it's looking like he will be lucky to beat it, unless both Force india's and Mercedes DNF at certain races.

Really he should of been knocking on the door of Nico and Schumacher by now...

The reason why he signed for Sauber again is because Peter Sauber and him have a close bond. Peter signed him and gambled his car seat for a hotshot rookie when he could of gone for somebody with more experience. Kamui said he owed alot to Peter for his F1 chance.

You know I was wondering this myself, last year he made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, now he just makes mistakes, I hope this phase he is going through isn't permanent.

Good post. I hope it'll make the car suit Kamui better. It's been a while since we saw a great, last of the late brakers, move from him.

We all know Kamui Kobayashi can overtake, he's probably the best in the business, but for some bizzare reason, this year either it goes wrong, or he just doesn't bother now. It's as if his confidence has evaporated.

F1's most exciting driver? I beg to differ…

P.S. I think Kobayashi is the most exciting driver from Japan in a very long time and has the potential to become that country's greatest ever driver.

Kobayashi is already the greatest ever japanese driver. It's not hard to do. I believe he is f1's most exciting driver (on the grid, not in the history). Who do you think is more exciting?

Mansell was a fat, useless overrated whiner, in other words, a british Jaques Villeneuve

    Well,
Hate: inevitably, 'exciting' is a subjective thing.
What we seem to agree upon is that Kobayashi has the potential to be the 'best' Japanese driver (ever), even if you have already arrived at this conclusion. Inwardly, I have a gut instinct that agrees with this conjecture, even if it is not yet proven (to me).

Well he's the best ever, becasue the competition is pretty lousy. All he's really up against is Takuma Sato, and he was ****e.

he hasn't made that many mistakes, Spa wasn't his fault, and I'm not sure what happened in singapore, he was doing well then all of a sudden he was a lap down, I think he must've been screwed by the SC. Getting a penalty for ignorig blues is a rookie error. As to being the most exciting, come on, that must be Hamilton, after all what more exciting than a racing driver crashing ionto his rivals every other race? Easily Japans best F1 driver EVER, Nakajima was probably the next best, he did ok but he also had a race winning car underneath him, for me Kamui is the first Japanese driver to look like he belongs there on merit, rather than a being there solely because he's Japanese, they make (made) good F1 engines and it's great PR.

He's my favourite driver, but I still made him my worst driver in the Singapore GP, as I expect far betterfrom him, he had a weekend to forget, but his recent performances have been ok, just been unlucky for the most, +, as others have stated, Sauber havn't developed liek those around them.

You really do talk out of your arse, don't you? A driver signed by Colin Chapman, Frank Williams (twice plus '94), Enzo Ferrari and Ron Dennis... But I'm sure that you know better than those chaps, Hey?

Did you actually watch F1 in the 80's? Stop spouting bile!
