I been seeing odd bits of news on the Manchester Arena enquiry. What amazes me is the lad got has far as he did with his backpack. He was even challenged by security, but from what I could see, didn't initiate a search there and then. Not blaming anyone, just surprised, because seeing the lad with the backpack, it looked pretty big and heavy, surely others must have thought, why have you got that in here, or do people normally take back packs to concerts?

Yeah, a member of the public actually alerted security to him as well, and they did nothing.

I bet those responsible for that shout have horrendous guilt about it.

Terrible mate, just hearing the telephone conversation about nuts and bolts everywhere. From what I gather the security guy spoke to him, I THINK he then radio'd to his colleague, but by then it was already too late. I don't know what the lad had to do to detonate the bag, so I can only assume, if he had been rumbled he would still have triggered it anyway, with someone that calculated and determined. It was a double edged sword, either way the evil was going to occur, just where, when and the unknown of how many casulties as a consequence. I guess the only way you stop someone like that is in the planning stage.

Pretty sure he entered the arena area near the end of the gig mate. The CCTV footage I’ve seen shows him more or less on his tod in the concourse. Had he been challenged at that point it might have ended up being an unwitting suicide mission by the security guard, but he’d have likely saved dozens of lives in the process.

Such a tragic event ffs. Whoever radicalised him and his brother are still out there.

Spent the past week meeting with parents of SEN children. The changes being made in schools generally there to minimise the risk of infection for all children but we wanted to make sure there was nothing above and beyond that we should offer as more personalised protection for the most vulnerable.

Often with the most extreme SEN cases there is an overlap with medical needs. Two typical examples we have is a 9 year old with severe epilepsy and a 6 year old with a glass eye. The mum of the girl with epilepsy explained to me that after an infection or raised temperature she always has seizures. The mum of the girl with a glass eye tells me the girl often has white secretion from her eye socket due to infection which naturally raises concerns about susceptibility to covid infection as a point of source.

The problem here is that technically these children are not ill. And it's come to light that there are no special arrangements being made for them. Which means they can't be absent from school without it being registered as unauthorised and open to local authority action. A headteacher can make limited allowances but not long term. Clearly this hasn't been accounted for and there must be thousands in this situation?

We have at least 10 in this situation but I quoted the above two because when I asked them if they'd sought their doctor's advice on this, they both told me separately "the GP told me to follow government guidelines, but there aren't any."

    Interesting, if not worrying, times.

But 30 kids in a class room and an office full of workers is sound though.....

I note it also applies to bars and restaurants.....so do they mean you can’t stand with more than 6 mates, or the entire premises can’t have more than 6 people in it? I suspect the former which makes it what I’d suggest is an absolute joke tbh.
