CONCERNS ARE RISING REGARDING 18 -34 year olds. Since the first week of August cases have doubled to close on 2000 per day and the biggest number / % is the 18 -34 group. In certain circles the worry is "THE PARTY ELEMENT" of UNI students will ignore the severity of covid and fail with basic requests [ already 16 -40 year olds (biggest grouping) ignore advice and attend "covid parties" /raves thinking they are immune]. COVID -19 is not a stable virus, unlike some of its brothers and sisters it changes / morphs in weeks as opposed to annually! and does not show in advance, clues like the flu, so vaccine cannot readily be generated. our Friday coffee morning discussed possible future problems with schools /virus mutations /lack of respect to others … etc In a local shop today a couple from some non English [ Romania/Bulgaria/eastern Europe ] was shopping with no face masks. A fellow customer asked them to put one on .. refused ...asked shop to tell them … wouldn't get involved. I waited for them to enter the aisle I was lurking in and from about a metre plus away with my mask down started coughing [had taken deep breath just prior ] apologising for my bad cough and sore throat as I moved away quickly... to get a breath …. weird that it was last aisle they shopped in and headed to check out. 5 mins later I had to assure a member of staff I was OK it was all a sham ….bet they will worry for an hour or 2 ….. !
I'll be honest, a lot of the precautions do feel like they've gone out of the window now. People not even bothering to social distance while walking past each other on pavements, mask use has dropped off. All we can do is make sure we ourselves are doing the right thing but it is particularly annoying when you know other people aren't...
posted this afternoon on BBC The UK could see a second spike in coronavirus cases if young people don't follow social distancing rules, the health secretary says. A third of all cases in England last week were people aged between 20 and 29. "The numbers have been have been going up. And we've seen in other countries where this leads, and it is not a good place," Matt Hancock says. Students starting university this month is a "concern", he adds. Speaking to Radio 1 Newsbeat the health secretary pointed to France and Spain, "where that second wave started largely amongst younger people, it then spreads". "And now we're seeing a sharp rise in the number of people in hospital and the number of people who are dying in those countries. "That hasn't happened here yet. And if people follow the social distancing rules, then we can stop that from happening here." Rise in tests and new cases On Sunday the government announced 2,988 new cases - the highest figure since 22 May.

in the 106 days since the last highest an average of 876 cases have been reported daily first time under 1000 22nd June 958 [1 day ] from 27/6 to 8/8 42 days of under 1000 lowest 352 on 6th July RAVES / GATHERINGS etc in July August "heatwave" NOW having its revenge ……. "The really important message is that younger people spread the disease, even if they don't have symptoms. "Don't kill your granny by catching coronavirus and then passing it on. And you can pass it on before you've had any symptoms at all."
Bit harsh from Matt Hancock there and I'd love to see what he's basing it on. After weeks of telling younger people to get out and enjoy life as they did before, going to pubs, restaurants, gyms, etc in order to save the economy, he's now got the cheek to say it's the younger people's fault for spreading it. Maybe if you hadn't spent the last month begging people to go back to the office in order to save the necks of the commercial owners who are losing money hand over fist, this wouldn't have happened. Speaking purely from experience as well, it seems to be mainly the middle-aged lot that seem to be anti-mask, though some younger are a bit rubbish as well. It's no wonder people don't really respect their rules anymore after the Dom Cummings fiasco anyway... It's the older generation I feel sorry for. Through a mix of the ineptitude of parts of the public and the dreadful messaging from the government, they are now stuck in until a vaccine is found, unless they want to risk it. My poor grandad has been stuck inside for months and it doesn't look like changing any time soon, and I don't blame him at all.
BEFORE I answer below always remember when H & S first came in [ should you have ever been involved with /as a rep etc ] "an individual is responsible for their own safety" well he is telling the truth, and unfortunately these people do not care a s**** and ignore the rules …… SD absolutely correct to advise and encourage … but the provisio was always … "please follow rules and social distancing" I fall into "the older generation" by a decade+ … and as such have learned a lot of wisdom! I isolated the week before the .gov stated it.. as did my group of friends … maxed out the rule of staying safe, got my daily exercise, needed because of my operation last year and for at the first 60 days of official lock down learned more than something every day! I have total respect for all older generation who felt the need to stay isolated, My isolation was pretty much 100%, SD was 3m plus and wearing face mask. June [end of ] began bubbling with a core of friends on walks once a week … evenings after 1830 till after dark occassionaly … SD WAS about 1.5m moving outdoors … group max was 6 [ omitting the youngest 2 ] combined age exceeded 300 years!!!!
Absolutely right and it sounds like you've done the correct thing without a doubt to protect your own health and that of others. But we can't just blame young people for being the ones who are most likely to spread it, I've seen people breaking the rules from all ages. And young people are the most likely to share a house with other young people, most likely to need to use public transport, most likely to be going back to jobs that require human interaction - all of these will make them spread the disease more through no fault of their own. I think this is on the government as much as it is on the idiotic people who are incapable of following rules, from all age brackets.
I’ve said months ago, the second spike will come and like it is in France and Spain once the older people start contracting again hospital admissions will go up. My daughter goes to the pubs most weekends, or to house parties. She says they are her social bubble friends but they mix with their parents as do my daughter so my social bubble involves her friends, her friends family and so on. Uni’s are opening up next week, people from all other are going to mix, creating bigger social bubbles. No one is blaming the young, but it is the young that go out all weekends where as the not so young (me) the old (Wize) the ancient (JGF) don’t go out but our social bubbles are huge. Funniest bit on our government in Wales. From 6pm tonight you are only allowed to travel in and out of Caerphilly borough for essentials. But the pubs and restaurants are still open. Scotland considering tighter restrictions, but are test piloting allowing fans into some grounds on Saturday.
the young find it more difficult to restrict themselves to "small bubbles" .. I don't think it is so much a "BLAME THING" more a consequence [ of this modern time ] … I have 3 bubbles … 4 with family … they all have weak points [ member (s) of … mixes outside of the bubble ] observing protocols helps to eliminate cross infection although this set up is not exactly totally in line with what is expected. young people base their "existence on grouping" and feel they are not important should they fail to attend every event [ parties etc] they can. I go out 4 times a week twice on my own twice with groups [ bubbles] visit 1 pub and go to 1 friends house for beer chips and snacks after evening walk …. biggest worry now is those bank holiday peeps are now sending the numbers up … and likely [ know of 2 cases ] holiday makers from abroad bringing it home …????
Yeah, can't disagree with any of that to be fair. I should add, I'm not quite as young as you might think, just younger than the 'old' and the 'ancient' as you put it
what good business we were "rumoured to be linked with Ivan toney" Brentford get him for around £10m fantastic .. now have potentially the best strike force in the championship..... but no … enter the master plan ….. now sell Ollie for 3 times that and should IVAN succeed a net gain of £18m WOW ………….. CONSOLATION IS WE GET CHRIS MARTIN …. !
one has to ask the question " last bank holiday and a total collapse of appreciation for SD and Covid awareness" ? CORNWALL was on the news early BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND Friday with police using local traffic announcements that caravans/camper vans and campers should find somewhere else to go as all sites in Cornwall were fully booked ........... but still 1000's persisted ….. !!! it was the LAST WEEKEND BEFORE SCHOOL IS BACK and as we all appreciate children at school [ or younger ] have parents that = the now saturating age group 18 - 49 ! NOW we are all under the microscope … as the government tightens the noose around the imbeciles who are kamikaze minded regarding no concern to others. I really hope that the police will be more stringent with their actions regarding those that do not comply. groups of 6 a fair number, for me anyway as it max'es out my groups on a Tues/Wed/Thursday without having to bend the rules! just checking the England density map …. peeps from the midlands love to crowd Clevedon and WSM Brean as they did on last Bank Holiday …. what previously had just a couple of areas of infection now covers an area of 900 sq miles with 2 or 3 areas close by of similar the map was a week ago just a dozen or so patch's outside of the corridor across Manchester .. now is OVER 50% of midlands and Manchester [ Liverpool to NEWCASTLE ]
there was a stage [ in a stage ] where the camera constantly was showing the posterior message on one of the riders.. it stated [whether linked to racism I couldn't say ] ..ALL FOR EVERYONE or similar, he was the black rider in one of the green teams what a glorious opportunity for the organisers of Le Tour TO send out a message .........…. kick racism out / all lives matter …. on all the riders bums you wouldn't need a "corrupted" organization like BLM then ….just the message for everyone …… all sports / organizations etc could be the purveyors of the message no looting, killing/ injuries, damage to property [peoples lives ruined]
