I don't see MP's as a physical manifestation of the will of the people any more, they're more an extension of the corporate lobbying arm in my eyes. Therefore I am no longer surprised or disappointed by the **** they pull, just see it as helping their fellow directors out.
Not exactly 'non -football' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-54053618 Up to 300 people who attended a charity football match are being told to self-isolate after 28 people tested positive for Covid-19. The event at Burnside Working Men's Club (WMC), in Fencehouses on the border of Sunderland and Durham, took place on 30th August. Anyone who attended must self-isolate for 14 days from then. Burnside WMC said "if we knew at the time what we know now" the match "would never have gone ahead". In a statement it wished everyone affected a "speedy recovery" and admitted that safety precautions on the day "were not strict enough". Durham County Council has been working with Sunderland City Council and Public Health England to manage the response. Durham's director of public health, Amanda Healy, said that contact tracing was being carried out to find anyone who had been in close contact with someone who tested positive. Plus a few local venues business are having issues:
The virus has not gone away. We basically had 3 months of "house arrest" that did not allow it to spread as much and slowed it down. Was inevitable that we would see a rise in infections when restrictions were lifted as this opportunistic virus got more potential hosts to infect. More than 80 new cases in Sunderland in the last few days is just the start sadly.
The recent news reports that Covid infection has been increasing over the last few days are a tad worrying. It's a bit concerning for my family as youngest daughter is due to be starting Uni for the first time. She'll be studying at Leeds and the city could be one of the those put into a local lock-down as the rate of infection now is growing quite rapidly there. Given there will be 1000's of students arriving in that city over the next couple of weeks it seems to me this will just put that exponential infection rate into overdrive. It's so bloody difficult and frustrating to plan ahead for anything! Anyone else having similar concerns ?
Think when the Uni's go back levels will sky rocket. It's already on the up in the younger age groups which I tend to think is linked to illegal raves and parties as this age group seen to think it's got nowt to do with them. They don't seem to register that by not playing to the social distancing rules they are putting their parents/grand parents at risk My grandkids have gone back to school today and I hope they haven't had problems but will find out later. I know we're all sick of these rules but not sticking to them isn't an option imo. Were on holiday this week in the Isle of Arran and I've sanitised my hands that many times it's unbelievable but it's got to be done and in fairness I've hardly seen anybody not sticking to the rules. This virus isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
i have heard young guys are asking for a hand sanitizer with added lubricant ...haven't a clue why anybody guess
Just had a text off the Bairns school to say somebody in her year has tested positive for covid, deffo going back into lockdown Sunderland like
Even more so for the 60,000 extra deaths this year so far compared to last year according to the Office for National Statistics. To put that into some sort of context, 70,000 civilians died in the UK during WW2 and that lasted 5 years. This is 60,000 in 6 months.
I believe that the decentralisation down to local authorities was a ploy by the government to prevent another national lockdown, gives the head shed the opportunity of passing the buck. Cases on the surge, track and trace a shambles, does not bode well for the coming winter. Hope I am wrong.
It’s stable in Newcastle, but Sunderland and South Tyneside are rocketing so it’s matter of time. Like mentioned tens of thousands of Uni students is ****ing suicidal. If they lockdown Shields or Sunderland everyone just come Newcastle anyway it’s a ****ing farce.
It is not a case of whether Central Govt. want to have another national lockdown or not. They quite simply cannot afford to do what they did (too late) the last time. The economy is ****ed.
Agreed it should have been earlier and stricter. Should have had the army doing more key roles, thus ensuring more people locked down. Had it been played better, we could have almost eradicated this virus from our shores, ffs this country is an island. As far as I can see, we are fcuked until mass vaccination. Cannot see full stadiums at all until this is done.
Thing is I’m convinced the virus was here far earlier than March, so whatever we did it was coming. Was already here.
