In fact I've found the solution. Too many times you'll need a new hobby now pyjama pants you're on ignore
Excellent post. The negativity I think is partly just a consequence of the failed takeover. Then also 13 years of Ashley ownership. We have had positive intent before under Ashley, but we gave the money to ****ing McClaren. Bruce I accept did well last year, but I think people will look at his career and be concerned about him backing it up. So there are obvious things which maybe justify such a mindset. But yeah the negativity about the actual signings is misplaced in my opinion. I think our business so far has been very good. We've signed 3 players who are proven in the league, have played at better teams than ourselves or been linked regularly with better clubs than ourselves. I don't mind people thinking well we've just done enough to maintain the status quo. Its looking at that as a negative, when really under this ownership I'd have expected a lot worse. People will then say yeah but that is just this ownership conditioning people to low expectations. They just need to stop with all the grand designs in their head, its reality, we are owned by who we are, get on with it. Then with signings, why are people always looking at the negative. With Hendricks it was "he's just a free transfer", "he's ****", "preparing for the championship with this plodder". With Fraser, Lewis and Wilson its "they are from relegated sides" "preparing for the championship" "their stats are ****". I just see 4 lads who are rated, and good enough for mid to top half sides. If we spend 50m and 3 free transfers, and they are moaning, then I'd hate to go for a pint with them come a matchday. They must be a right bundle of fun at parties.
Some of the things they're saying are silly like the fact the players were relegated.. Means nothing. I see nothing negative in people staying grounded. At present I see no reason to expect a great change.. We need 2 or 3 more before I'd start suggesting a top half push might be on the cards... Why's that negative? Look at the reality is my view.
That’s the issue when Bruce is mates with the media. He did a good job 3/4 of last season. Last couple of games where poor. He’s brought in some good players in the 3 we have got in excluding keeper to keep us in the league purely because we absolutely had to to survive. I think the pressure will be on him if we do get the lb from Norwich as he won’t really have any excuses will he?
I’m not really saying it as a negative towards the signings. I’m happy with them. But to then suggest it’s Ashley turning a new leaf or otherwise I’m Not having that. He’s had to invest this time because he’s let the squad get some bad. These signings plug the gaps that he’s created. Nothing more. All Signings are premier league average players which is where we are now and more than expected. But that just keeps us up with the others I am afraid. We couldn’t fall any further behind.
Yes he's already laid the foundations for the mythical injury crisus as he did last season where it was all fringe players plus one or two max from or first 11.. Second excuse will be offered to him in media interviews when they ask about the takeover unsettling the group and he'll take it with both hands if it's not going well..
He just rolls with everything great all the time.. He spent all summer claiming Joelinton was twice the player rondon was last year without seeing him play... I was told I was negative fur suggesting it would be a miracle if he did as well as rondon.
I don't mind realism. But a lot of the stuff on the signings is just pure negativity. You've got to work in reality. That reality is we are owned by Michael Ashley, and he has openly told us he has no interest in bankrolling the club. Therefore every judgement we make about signings, should be made with the reality of our situation in mind. We also have 13 years of historical evidence of how this owner operates. Anybody who thinks these signings and them potentially simply maintaining the status quo is a negative, aren't living in the real world. This is positive if anything, but at the very least its not a negative. Any Newcastle fan should have seen enough to at least go into the season with a positive fans mindset. Its the start of season, get behind the manager and the team, we are lucky to have a team capable of competing in the PL. Lots of fans up and down the country don't have that luxury.
Don't know who - there wasn't one person anywhere thought Joelinton would do well. It ranged from "never heard of him" to "£40m is ****ing mental".
Contributed to a team which survived, same as Rondon. You claimed we'd be worse off without Perez and Rondon, turns out we weren't. Wrong again. Its a habit of yours. Nor do I roll with its great all the time. I just accept reality instead of chatting negative ****e.
Fair enough that's just how some are coming across - its more the "they're aall ****" or "preparing for the championship" stuff. I'm not suggesting a takeover is happening, or we are seeing Ashley turn over a new leaf, its madness if anyone is thinking that this is what it means. Its just not negative in any way. We've strengthened more than a significant number so far. I think most would expect if Bruce does a decent job, there is enough in the squad to be enjoying PL football again in 2021/2022.
The only issue I have with it isn't that it's negative - there's actually no way these transfers can be spun negatively, they are all proven PL (and International) performers, even if some individuals got relegated in crap teams. All I've said is that this activity - spending £35m on four or five players - is what we could and should have been doing every year for the past 13 seasons. We shouldn't be in a position where we are either a) looking for negative spin, or b) blown away by the transfer activity. We shouldn't have been relegated. But why is this competence seen once a decade? Why is Ashley such a ****ing dick he has to make life exponentially more complicated by thick actions and terrible decisions?? It's ****ing baffling. We have been conditioned to either be so despondent under Ashley that everything comes with a negative caveat, or so desperate that a few half-decent transfers are seen as sign of a takeover!! The reality is they are neither of those things - these are just the actions of a club doing what it can at its' appropriate level. Ashley even has previous of backing managers who have no fan respect. Pardew, Bruce, McLaren all given the benefit of the doubt and for some unknown reason a level of competence from the deal makers we never see. The line seems mysteriously easy to get over for some, yet not for others.
