Of all the Spurs of the past 15 yrs or so, one of my worst is not having both class and competent strikers when the MF/team as a whole is strong. Berbatoss and Keane when the MF was quite meh. A good roster of strikers in Defoe/Crouch/Pav when the MF had Modric/Bale/Lennon, but none of them 20+ PL goal standard. And in the Kane era, not one striker in the squad vaguely comparable to any of the above three.,
At this level you can’t be giving player too many chances for basic things like attitude and desire. Sell Ndombele and use the money towards getting in a ST and a creative midfielder.
I guess Jose will have to play Son/Bergwijn upfront if Levy ‘oh it’s so difficult for Spurs to find a second striker’ doesn’t get another man in
he’s had his chance...he’s had a year. I’ll put it into perspective...Aurier was back and giving it his all a few days after his brothers death but fatso needs another year to ‘settle’ and needs hugs and kisses from Jose for us to get the best out of him? He oozes a weak mind
Exactly, also the things that let him down aren’t really things you can easily change. If it was on field errors then you could maybe be more lenient and hope he would learn. But to not be properly fit or have the right mentality is something that is very hard to fix
It’s his own downfalls...but I expect some of the fan base to blame Jose for ‘not getting the best out of him’ ‘Paid 15 mill a season to get him playing’ etc etc when the truth is Jose is not a qualified psychologist, councillor or foster parent elect and to me it seems evident that TN is in need of something along them lines.
Not even close to the condition/effort he showed in the 2019 pre-season. Other than some undisclosed <standard> injury, why should that be ?? Given that he is going to probably be on the starting XI sheets for every non PL fixture prior to the Man Utd game, the club can ill-afford (in every way) to have a player who is not willing to demonstrate any of what you stated.
Although doubtful, Ndombele may have a chance of being in the starting XI for Everton because it looks as though Lo Celso is injured and so the CM options are going to be between Hojbjerg, Sissoko, Gedson and Ndombele. We’ll probably go 4231 with Alli in the CAM role so it’ll mean two of those four playing in the two CM spots. It’ll likely be Sissoko and Hojbjerg but that’s not a pairing we really want to see as there’s zero creativity. Hojbjerg needs to play with Lo Celso and/ or a motivated Ndombele in a two or a three. If reports are true and Ndombele is to stay, I think the best thing we could do is give him a run of starts to prove himself. New season, new slate. If he doesn’t take his chances then he never.
How many starts before we can admit that he’s useless? You have to consider how many games you are prepared to use as training matches for his benefit and potentially right off for Spurs The guy has wasted our rare opportunity to sign someone decent by spending a record amount...he should have ****ed off with Poch in all honesty because I get the feeling he would be suited to Poch’s molly coddling personality. Tbf he would still be in a Poch’s ‘settling in’ period so I kind of get the shock he must be in that we expected him to perform last season
It depends how he’d perform I’d guess. But reports are that the club have decided to keep him so it’d be pointless putting him on the bench all the time as he’d only decrease further in value. If we’re keeping him we have to find a way to get some use. Somehow someone needs to light a fire under him, the ability’s certainly there.
Easy to forget tbh. Injured though I believe, missed three pre-season games and pulled from England squad.
