Southgate said they weren’t in the team hotel. I wouldn’t let them near the England team as long as I was manager if I was Southgate...better to give a chance to someone with respect for the job.
They are not on an 18-30 in Magaluf, they are supposed to be representing their country, supposedly one of the most important things in a professional footballer's career. Yes, they are young but their actions could've have severe consequences which could've impacted the whole squad and match, it is a sharp lesson in which I hope they are punished accordingly and made to be aware how serious this is.
So if it was Ings you would want Saints to sell him as be has no respect? It was stupid but 18 year olds are hardly going to behave perfectly at all times - especially where the opposite sex is concerned! Yeah, I agree it isn't what you should be doing on England duty. But they obviously thought the risk was minimal, they probably wouldn't get caught and no one will come to any harm. It was a mistake and getting kick out the squad is the right response. I think Foden is in a relationship too so probably in hot water there too
The fact is though they know they can't take any chances with Covid-19. They knew they had to set an example as members of the England squad. Now I'm not going to demand a ban from the England squad or anything like that but they need to understand the seriousness of what they've done.
It is the same as what Archer did. I agree it is the covid issue which makes this bad, rather than them messing about with a couple of girls. Jof got excluded from the squad, had a talking to and it was left at that. I don't believe this should be any different.
Wasn’t suggesting they should get sacked by their club, but, if you aren’t grown up enough to be trusted, you don’t deserve to keep someone else out of the squad. How do they get to decide what the risk is? Huge effort is being made to get sport going again..what would happen if other team members caught it and had to miss games...what if opposition players caught it. International football could be cancelled as too risky. If you behave like spoilt children, you deserve to be sent home in disgrace and accept the fact that you have blown your chance in the short term.
I have no interest on how the national team get on anymore, having Ings and JWP part of the squad has changed that slightly, but here we go again two idiots who dont understand the potential risk of covid to not only them, but England teammates and staff, and beyond. Yes the girls or (whoever they came into contact with) may not have this awful virus, but what if they do? I am so glad it seems to me, that our club never seem to have an issue with player conduct thanks to the life skills education gained at Southampton FC.
Would you? Given the number of players testing positive in various leagues and locations and the consequences that brings it deserves more than a slap on the wrists.
Hands up anyone who wasn’t irresponsible, naive, stupid or unprofessional once as a 17/18 year old? * sits on own hands
Build them up, to knock 'em down again... A bit stupid yes and they're right to be sent home, but nothing more than that.
