Not impossible but unlikely I think, anyway he's staying and possibly going to sign a long term deal.
I have a mate of a mate type story about Ings. A good friend of mine is mates with someone who is close mates with Ings. Basically said that he was up for a move as he had one last big contract left. This was before the end of the season so no idea if that has changed
To be fair, it would make sense for Ings to consider his options if a team showed interest. You’re right that he probably has one last big move/contract left as he’s 29 next summer. Doesn’t mean that the big contract can’t be with us though. Considering a team’s interest doesn’t mean he wants to go or will actually leave. There will be all sorts of interest in our players that doesn’t lead to anything and isn’t leaked to the press. Is anyone actually surprised that a team (allegedly) showed interest in him?
Yeah the story I heard from my mate was that his mate (Danny’s friend) would be surprised if he was still at Saints for the start of the next season as there was interest being shown in him from clubs who would pay more in wages than Saints. As he only had one big contract left he thought he would want to go. This was a few months ago so no idea on what’s happened since (if anything). I was never particularly worried due to the cost of buying Ings and his age/injury history meaning nobody would be bidding loads for him
I don't think so either, but mainly because of the Euros. We are lucky that they were pushed back to 2021. It's meant he's got into the England squad well ahead of the tournament, so staying here and having another good season should pretty much secure him a place. It would be much riskier for his Euros chances if he moved to another club for this season. My main point was I can see him considering other clubs, even though I can't see him wanting to leave this summer. May also give him more leverage for a bigger wage in any contract extension we give him.
I'd be very surprised if Saints are not seriosuly considering Offering Ings a £80-100 Thousand a week. He will single handedly push us up the table alone.
Not sure how reliable this is, but it says Ings is currently on £75k per week. If true I would imagine any new contract would need to be at least £85k per week? https://sillyseason.com/salary/sout...Ryan Bertrand, his stay permanent from Chelsea.
I did wonder what Ings was currently on, But i think for someone you would consider a level above wher3 the rest of squad are at that he should be the highest paid player.
We are as close to a one man team as we have been since MLT... We basically have to pay him whatever he wants Hopefully Adams can continue his post-lockdown scoring streak going and ease some of the burden on Ings too.
A bit late to this but had no idea that Victor Wanyama left Spurs to join Montreal Impact of the MLS earlier this year. He's playing alongside Saints legend Saphir Taider.
