    Championship Rando Watch
Murdoch's Hate Comic took a break from wondering why Extinction Rebellion suddenly have people agreeing with them at the exact same time they're blocking their print works to report we're looking at signing Will Hughes from Watford

Back in 2017, when Watford signed him for £8m, it would've been a good bit of business as he'd been a regular in Derby's team since he was 17 and he was touted as a potential top prospect, even if he missed most of the 2015-16 season with an ACL injury

The issue for me is that, when he was at Derby, he was a playmaker in central midfield and our team certainly could do with someone who could transition us from defending to attacking as we've lacked someone who can do this since Dembele's decline began - but that isn't the player he is anymore and he's more of a Jordan Henderson, who will work his bollocks off for the team and keeps his passing short and simple, which is certainly a player our midfield needs in the 88th minute when we're clinging onto a 1-0 lead - but is absolutely not a player our midfield needs when we're facing teams who are determined to sit back on the edge of their 18 yard box for 90 minutes

The other obvious point is that, while he's yet another player we can say would unlock Lo Celso/Winks/Ndombele, the fact that we already have Hojbjerg for this purpose has me wondering if the plan is to have either a midfield three of a return of THAT BASTARD ****ING DIAMOND with Lo Celso at the tip while Hojbjerg and Hughes screen Winks because I cannot see a midfield pivot made up of two of Hojbjerg/Winks/Hughes doing much to move the ball forward effectively

I will say why didn’t we look into his personality since he has previous for lacking desire...last time he got a kick up the backside from his management team and players...this time people think he still needs time and if Jose puts him in his place then those with the anti Jose agenda will jump onto it and accuse the manager of isolating and bullying players.

Jose has no time for players who don't/won't put the effort in but will give a player with genuine talent as much chance as he can, hard love.
He seemed to **** all over Luke Shaw for the same reasons but it worked, Shaw accepted he needed to work harder and got his place back. Now he is our best LB and we have no need of another with Williams coming through.

This time last year I was saying we should have parked a truck of cash at Lyon's stadium and signed Ndombele, Houssem Aouar and Lucas Troussart given how Lyon would rotate various combinations of the three and it would always accentuate the positives and hide the weaknesses of the others

So I guess I'll start the ball rolling with "Why didn't we sign Houssem Aouar instead of Ndombele?"

And let's be honest, there's a reason why Luke Shaw is a shell of the player he could have been, and that's because the ubermensch would single him out for criticism after every point dropped instead of more valid targets, which more often than not was De Gea dropping another clanger that people ignore because they couldn't comprehend that maybe he isn't the best keeper in the world

    Exhibit A

A clear example of a player that he shat upon publicly rather than blame more deserving culprits

Let me guess, you supported Bacon Face punting a boot into David Beckham's face to demonstrate to Ryan Giggs how not to miss an open goal?

No, a clear example of a player that needed a kick up the arse to sort himself out. Shaw lost his Mojo under van Gaal because of the turgid football we played. He had no need to run and help in attack so became fat and lazy, the man himself admits that he needed jose to sort him out but you know better of course.
Nobody has ever absolved de Gea for his massive drop, it started over 3 years ago after his first full tournament with Spain for some reason (maybe a loss of confidence because he had a bad tourny or maybe because he felt safe after a huge new contract who knows, oh you <laugh>)

Yes, a clear example of singling out a player when other players deserved criticism - which, frankly, is uncannily like that bore who is always sat within earshot of you at the ground (okay, not now) who is bemoaning everything whatever the designated lightning rod is doing in that particular game - unless they score, obviously, at which point they shut up until acting like they hadn't scored the next game

You do realise that second sentence is agreeing with me, right? And here's food for thought: De Gea became Spain's number one in 2016, and was guilty of a series of clangers in Euro 2016 - but, of course, nobody ever thought of suggesting that his confidence may have been shot nine months previously when Man Utd torpedoed his move to Los Ladrones and tried to publicly bullshit about it by saying the fax machine wasn't working

Damn right I know better than you

    Course you do :emoticon-0105-wink:

Any idea when we had a big change in goal keeper coaches? i always thought that could have play some part in his form :emoticon-0100-smile

Madrid buying the Chelsea keeper should have settled him down, he never wanted to leave Manchester his girlfriend did so once the opportunity passed he gets no more ear ache.
My second sentence saying that he admits he needed Jose's treatment to sort him out is me agreeing with you saying Jose is wrong to call players out in public?

De Gea's had plenty of goalkeeping coaches during his time at Man Utd
Eric Steele (before De Gea arrived-2013)
    Chris Woods (2013-14)
    Frans Hoek (2014-16)
    Emilio Alvarez (2016-19)
    Craig Mawson (2019-present)

So which one do you want to blame for him losing form which just so happened to coincide with his move to Los Ladrones being scuppered and him being publicly fobbed off with an obviously bollocks reason?

It also says a lot that the official version of his decline says it started happening in 2018, as if he wasn't responsible for four utter howlers during Euro 2016, two in the group stage loss to Croatia that saw them lose 2-1 and finish second in the group, and two more in their 2-0 quarter final loss to Italy - no doubt because he didn't try and make excuses for that tournament, unlike his howlers in the 2018 World Cup where it was the ball's fault he was as effective at keeping the ball out of the net as a mosquito

Tbh I am not a Maureen fan but as he is the manager and has a plan for the team I will go with what he thinks are the best players to carry out his plans.

Like Janssen and Soldado before him, N'dombele has done nothing to suggest that he is able to make it in the premier league.
It is a shame but if he is ditched then so be it.
It may well be better for all parties if he goes asap as the chances of him turning it around (judging yesterday's performance st Watford) seem slim (no jokes please!)

You can usually tell a player who’s come back fitter, sharper, hungrier for the game from the previous season if he had a lot to prove

Feel free to explain how Hoek went back in time to coach De Gea for the first three years of his Man Utd career

The fact that Hoek left at the end of the 2015-16 season also doesn't explain De Gea's appalling Euro 2016 considering that
a.) Hoek isn't the Spanish goalkeeping coach
b.) Hoek left Man Utd around the time De Gea was with the Spanish team for the tournament

You know what would affect his form though? Sharing a training camp with a bunch of players who would have been his teammates for the previous season if his move didn't get torpedoed before he was publicly fobbed off with an embarrassing excuse for an excuse for why it was torpedoed

Wilson to Newcastle confirmed. Good signing for them if he can stay fit. We need to move for a striker this week I feel! Cutting it a bit fine.

Some vague chat about us being interested in Benrahma. Seems unlikely, to me.
Obligatory **** music warning and you might want to give it a miss if you're triggered by stepovers, backheels or especially nutmegs.
    So, so many nutmegs...
