The point is that that is stealing, if that was an ordinary person who did that in the Tesco store they would have been prosecuted for theft so what is the difference there isn't 1. VIR when was the last time you bought a dounghnut, the crispy creme 1's are about 90p if not more they aren't cheap.
Theft is theft and he should have been charged for stealing that dounghnut, along with both of his friends.

Bear in mind he is a footballer, you only have to look back a few months to when Ashley Cole shot someone with an air rifle. Anyone else would have faced some serious charges but because he kicks a ball about for money, he doesn't even get a slapped wrist.

    Errr, no he shouldn't:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-11476274

Why should taxpayers pay several thousand quid to have three blokes prosecuted for stealing a £1.19 doughnut? Tesco rarely calls the police about minor shoplifting - particularly now judges have told them to deal with it themselves. In fact, Tesco has adopted a new (and quite controversial) policy - when it catches shoplifters it passes their details on to an external firm that basically intimidates these people into paying money, often a few hundred quid a pop, to Tesco in order to avoid being charged with theft.

According to the CAB, Tesco and other stores now make a fair bit of profit from extorting minor shoplifters in this way, and even tries it on with people who have made a genuine error:

Wouldn't be surprised if Tesco managed to blag a few grand out of De Gea and walked away happy...

This whole thing sort of has similarities with the Arabian tale of the man who steals a loaf and has his hands chopped off.

True, but the aim of the criminal justice system is to maintain social order and keep crime under control. Which implies it is not worth wasting police and court time on someone who nicked a doughnut, no matter how famous, when around 90% of rapes and burglaries still go unsolved, along with many other serious crimes. He'd probably get a caution from the police at best, but then given that Tesco decided not to contact the police that implies they don't even think he deserves that.

On the flip side of that, the Tesco Store in which great doughnut robbery alegedly occured is in Altrincham as are many of his fellow players homes(Bowden etc),a prosecution for something so trivial could have backfired on the store because of solidarity from fellow United players and supporters that live in the area thus making the the stores profits take a nosedive.

Had it been a resident of one of the poorer districts of Gtr Manchester things could well have been different.

But im sure the lad could'nt give a flying one because it was only frontline news in The Sc*m and he will now make Greggs his chosen doughnut destination.

    :)

Was it in Alty? Lol, that's my local Tesco store! I'm in there a few times a week, wish I'd been there to see it! He must not have realised what he was doing in that case - in that Tesco store the doughnut display is right in front of the CCTV monitoring station!! He must have been standing right in front of the guard when he ate it.

And tbh, no matter what branch of Tesco it was or who was doing the shoplifting the company was unlikely to make much of a fuss - you get such a slap on the wrist for shoplifting that prosecution is unlikely to be much of a deterrent. This threatening letter thing they do seems to be the default stance now - Tesco seems to have worked out how to make profit out of yet another thing...

The crux of the matter seems to have been missed, he is an idiot as we see most days when he is between his goal posts.

The Donut theft does not worry me, it just reassures me that LS will make sure to STEAL his thunder in our next game.

Anyway the donut probably just fell out of his hands and into his mouth by accident, any court in the land would believe that.

<laugh> Well at least now I know that if I nick a doughnut they won't try and prosecute...always useful information!

Next time I'm in the store I'll try to remember to snap a photo of the doughnut stand - like I said IIRC it's right next to the security guy so I seriously doubt De Gea was actually trying to nick one. He's the most stupid thief in the history of forever if so!

Yeah, scousers generally need a few jabs of heroine to stop them getting depressed at how much better Manchester is than Liverpool. And bringing your own woman is probably a good idea - Mancunian women know not to touch the scouse with a ten foot pole <ok>
