Not so well away today but Starman didn't half finish off strongly. He rattled home to join and then come away from Dakota Gold with the pair clear. The win or forecast was inevitable from a good way out. Looking at Starman and Dakota Gold you would swear Starman was the older horse but he seems massive for a 3YO and this looked a Group performance today. Aristocratic Lady was very disappointing and once again Mum's Tipple looked a pale shadow of the horse who stormed away in a sales race last season. Just one of those freak results that had people running to back him for the 2000 Guineas at the time. Major Jumbo was poor last time he ran and was terrible again today, he's gone right off the boil and I laughed at the preview which described him as "Ultra consistent but needs to bounce back from a poor effort", talk about contradicting yourself. Nice performance from Starman there and interesting to see where he goes now. To paraphrase the Bowie song:- "I had to phone someone so I picked on you Hey, that's far out so you heard him too Switch on the TV we may pick him up at 7/2"
15:20 Fontwell - Memphis Bell (Just on breeding have to have a bit on this mare. Sire Yeats out of a Presenting dam, great staying blood. Hopefully, will run a good race over the distance of just under 2m6f, which surely will suit her? Going probably perfect. Just the one bet today and that will do, 6/1 best price at time of writing.)
He didn't beat anything though in the end, problem for me was it looked a two horse race and the selection didn't turn up. I would still be against Courtanbould in a race against a 115+ horse if giving away a penalty. The one noticeable thing about that race was how poor Bob Pebble was, he surely will be moving elsewhere sooner rather than later.
Shout with Starman, Grendel, well done! (I find that 15:25 at Longchamp a real headache, just cannot figure-out who'll win it! Good luck with Victor Ludorum!)
Wouldn't be surprised if Peltwell wins the next at Fontwell for Neill Mullholland despite the fact the other runner from the yard is well supported.
The thing that swung it for me was the last run in soft conditions well weighted but stayed ! You are right though there was no competition .
Pinatubo and Siskin probably dont really want a mile but this isnt a testing mile, Pinatubo should get away with it. No reason why Siskin should reverse form with Circus Maximus on worse terms. Victor Ludorum has a tall reputation but his form doesnt stack up against this field, the French Guineas was a G1 in name only and Persian King looks the better horse to me. I went with Circus Maximus at the prices but think Pinatubo will be hard to beat.
Well done fellas. Very impressed with the horse there. Looked beaten at one point put battled then picked up brilliantly
Doyle had a mare there on the fav and Moore strangely went hard in front with no one forcing him to, Persian King had a perfect trip and hes a top class horse on his day to be fair. Had to have a saver on him at that price. please log in to view this image
Hoping Boudot can win the next as well as Hurricane Dream is a horse I like a lot, I had a decent bet on him in the Jockey Club but wasnt his day and he was keen on the outside most of the way, he has since reversed the form with Dawn Intello and I think he can beat him again here, really cool horse.
Well, I guess that's a little boom for Pilgrim, Smokey, and me. Very impressed with the young lady jockey, and her mount too! Good to get one in after yesterday's 4th place disappointment.
Finished betting for the day, but I do like the chance of bottom-weight Firewater in the last at York (16:10)
