EFL Cup second (and third) round draw today.

For the first time in a long time my wish is for anyone but the skates. A derby behind closed doors is just too tragic for words.

I've just seen the 'highlights' of the England game, and I have to say I think England's penalty was very lucky. And for the defender to get booked for that is very poor

I think 1-0 was right in the end, if only because we had a goal incorrectly disallowed at the beginning and Iceland didn’t offer too much outside of their own half.

Trash game though, England looked like they have dropped a bit since pre lockdown, but hopefully once the cobwebs are off things will pick up again.

Sidenote - JWP specifically seems to be getting a lot of stick for his performance, but it didn’t seem any worse than anyone else out there to me.

The reason JWP is getting stick, might be unfair and that maybe because he isn’t really the level of player England should have in midfield if we’re to compete at the top.

I love him and have always backed him and stuck by him at Saints, yet if I think of top international midfielders in international teams, I don’t think JWP. Glad he’s got a chance and he deserved that the way he worked post re-start.

Hard to judge in such an uninspiring England performance, but have to agree that JWP isn’t the kind of player to take a game by the scruff of the neck. He suits our team style, but may not necessarily suit England’s. Still early days.

Just seen shot of James scuffing the penalty spot before the Iceland penalty. Ralph has certainly moved James over to the dark side :)

To be fair to JWP, he did what he could by moving the ball on. The lack of movement up front would have made it difficult for the best midfielders to create anything and, especially in the first half, Prowsey made several runs into space, between their CBs, without being seen by the players on the ball. Except for once, when the ball was hit in hard and slightly behind him. Even Alan Smith commented on the ball being too difficult to control.

He’s right. At the very, very best it is unsporting and not in the spirit of the game. I’d call it cheating.

He’s our nasty little cheat though, so I love it.

Well he’s not wrong, ****y behaviour. I’m sure everyone would be fuming if Mark Noble did that and we missed a pen

He obviously learnt it from when Inter did it at St Marys and he took a small slap as well iirc.

I'm not really arsed about it, he got away with it so that's that. The idea of people behaving in a sporting manner in top level football is largely long gone imo.

Any advantage you can gain matters, no matter how slim.
