despised the place...bullying was rife, daily fights to determine 'hardest in school/year', if no 'hardest in school/year' competitions, fighting for fightings sake...i was not a fighter and also not a teachers pet so while others got one to one help at times i always got 'catch up in your own time' and soon lost interest, exams were a horrendous experience for me, could answer almost any question in class but i went brain dead even at the thought of an exam...strange thing is, i have not failed a single one since leaving.
Was that in Guildford Rog? Never frequented the place but spent many a happy time in the CMH accommodation with the QAs
Did I write that for you? Only started learning when I was about 23 and loved it passed everything I did.
Went to St Roberts in Washington, had a brilliant time with friends I am still close to 30 years later. I would go back tomorrow. I was probably a bit of an idiot and knocked about with the supposedly tough lads but I was regularly put in my place with a wack of the strap every so often. I still say the young ones of today would benefit from a bit of corporal punishment.
Loved every (well nearly) minute of my time at school. I was lucky that I never struggled too much academically and a memory I could regurgitate facts st exam time. Which enabled me to be a class fool quite often snd still do well. Sport was my main love footy, cricket, cross-country. Even played a bit of field hockey. 53 years since I left - wish I was back there again. KTF
used to tour the country playing water polo i played for combined services and have a few medals from them,
I did a course at Keogh barracks with some guy's from 3 para, absolutely mental. I think I only spent one night in my single room accommodation. That place was wall to wall fanny, couldn't even use the drying rooms as they were teeming with knickers and bras. Was actually the closest I've been to starring in a carry on film.
I loved the learning side of it, where else would I have read Shakespeare, but I hated Assembly and hated R.E. We had two lessons a week discussing a pack of lies and talking about sky fairies. Those 2 lessons should have been art focused and not filling pupils heads with rubbish. Could have been worse I guess, could have went to a Catholic school.
