The ruling has nothing to do with the words. During the pandemic ALL SINGING in gatherings is banned, apparently more droplets which could be carrying the virus are produced when singing or shouting, therefore it will be instrumental only. When the pandemic is over the singing will return as usual.

We have a duty to recognise the wrongs in our history, but we also have a duty to be proud of the rights. The thing that's unacceptable is trying to wipe out history and art regardless of our rights and wrongs. I hate the BBC with a passion.
I recognise the wrongs of slavery etc, but absolutely refuse to accept any responsibility. My ancestors weren't responsible for the slave trade and I'm not responsible for what's happening in America now. Whatever they're doing it's not in my name. I'll apologise for nothing.

If I was a conspiracy theorist, you might think this was a bit invented Trumpism, a deflection to avoid a problem you have messed up or failed to address. Of course some folk might be offended by these songs just as say when Adele tweeted her Notting Hill look. But what I can see most so called lefties could not care a flying fcuk about them, but Johnson and the Daily Heil etc can make political capital of the row. Also gives them a chance to beat up the BBC. IMHO there is nothing upsetting in the songs...
