If you read more widely on O'Brien going, you'll see it's clear he was so heavily criticised for his biased reporting and lack of impartiality that the BBC wanted him gone and gave him a face saving exit.

It's easy to ambush a politician using poor tactics. Here's an example - "You are against unlimited immigration, Mr Farage. Yet a three year old boy died on a beach in Greece last week. Doesn't that make you complicit in child killing?"

No politician, including those on the left, will put up with that style, which O'Brien uses. So he ends up talking about himself to his adoring supporters

Whether O'Brien resigned because he was told he couldn't be biased, or was sacked because he was biased, is irrelevant isn't it? Either scenario puts a hole in your argument about Newsnight's inherent bias.

No, it doesn't. It means that O'Brien is beyond the pale, even for the BBC but O'Brien sets a low bar. As I say, Maitliss has been condemned for sneering and bullying. It's what Newsnight is. You may say it's an antidote to the Tory government, but Newsnight is not politically impartial, and that's a problem for the BBC as a whole

Maitlis was disciplined by the BBC for a monologue about the Cummings affair, despite what she said being demonstrably true. It seems to me that's setting a rather high bar. By the way, it was only a monologue because no one from the government would appear to be questioned on the issue. This is all just right wing paranoia.

The bar I was referring to was set by O'Brien.

Do you accept that the BBC should be politically impartial?

It’s not even paranoia. It’s a need to be seen to be oppressed and victimised and it’s as old as time from the same ****s who claim to be the defenders of freedom of speech.

Yes the BBC should be impartial, and it is. Posing difficult questions to the government of the day is not partiality.

I see Sky and lefty Kay Burley are attacking Tony Abbott’s appointment now. They never give up do they?

I'm glad you're happy because there's been a marked decline in satisfaction ratings according to LBC. That's the acid test

Plenty of people have said stuff in politics but Sky/BBC are very selective who they criticise? I know a few including Sir Wooden that should be asked questions but they never do.

Starmer, like his predecessor, gets slandered constantly for the crime of being Labour leader rather than anything he has or hasn’t actually done. The latest being Johnson’s PMQs episode this week. There’s really no comparison to Abbott.

If you cant ask a question to the government or MPs because it makes them uncomfortable or is tricky, then what's the ****ing point. This was highlighted even more at PMQs.
Unfortunately, this present government is not open to scrutiny, wont answer direct questions and is very rarely honest with the public. People talk about democracy! What a load of ****e

remind me what BBC/Sky interview you are referring to regarding Starmer? I must have missed that one. Sir Wooden has been hiding behind the trees mate. Other than the bland/boring/wooden comments direct me to the interviews that give him any stick? Don’t waste your time looking mate because the don’t exist.

That's all they can do...attack attack attack! Starmer is way too clued up for that clown PM and the Tories know it.

What’s he done that deserves precedence over our world-beating government?
