Loved Ray Wilson as a tackler. Primary school in the late 60's, and I played full back. Our sports teacher, MR Prichard, told me to copy two full backs - Chris Lawler and Ray Wilson. He was obsessed with the way that Wilson tackled, which was to stay on your feet and take a step back just as the forward was deciding which side to go. Every bit as skillful as dribbling, imo, and done in the days of Chopper Harris, Paul Reannie, Tommy Smith and Brian Labone, whose idea of tackling, much from the contemporary Italian school, started at the knee and worked upwards.
It’s sad news about GS son. I have looked into bone marrow donation, unfortunately age and medication mean I can’t. Same with blood and plasma. would be great if more people were open to donate this stuff, seen first hand what it does to the recipient and also their family.
Played in a different position, so you may as well say he didn't get as many caps as Martin Chivers. Or Peter Bonetti.
doesn’t matter, the rules are that personal bias count more than facts. Ashley Cole has set the discussion bar here. Smith = ****e. I didn’t make the imaginary rules up.
Mate... getting an international cap isn't the only measure of ability. Caps may depend on whether the competition for a player's position at the time is better. That's why Leighton Baines only got 30 caps ...
For personal bias substitute 'opinion' ... the irony is that you are whinging on about a player from the club you support and accusing posters with no club allegiance to Ashley Cole of having the 'personal bias'
It’s incredible the amount of people who don’t seem to agree that Cole was a world class LB and one of the best ever. He’s on practically every top 10 LB of all time list that I’ve looked at. Must just be deluded Chelsea fans all voting for their own players. Not seen Baines on one yet but I’ve only looked at about 5, I’m sure he’ll be on many of the others.
“You'd do well to find a full-back in the Premier League era who even comes close to Ashley Cole” Baines. Easy.
