Do people think going to 48,000 capacity was the right thing to do or should we have stayed at 42,000?

Thought it was 75000 to give us the semi final with Old Trafford and 90000 at the new Wembley for the final

Was the right thing to do at the time, been a bit of a noose last few years though, frankly.

Moving away fans and cheap seats up there has destroyed the atmosphere.

Bob Murray said he had to do it at that time. Once the aquatic center was built he wouldn't have got permission for the north stand extension. Sure it was on one of the podcasts.

Was justified at the time, if you look at average attendance the 2 seasons after it was built.

The vast majority of the thousand or so leftover seats in those seasons were in the away end.

I agree with you on the moving of the Away fans, biggest mistake in regards to the atmosphere.

I've read it was because of planning applications. Thought it was a time limit thing, never realised it was because of the swimming baths.

was it maybe to fast to extend only 3 years into a new stadium?? Going from 22,000 at roker to 42,000 was already ambitious enough.

Maybe needed to wait and ensure the good team under reid wasn't a flash in the pan

Maybe mate. Goes back to what Murray said I guess that it had to be done then or wouldn’t have got permission to build over aquatics centre.

I mean they could have just extended on the other side like <laugh>

We may have to extend the Roker End and the East Stand just to get 42,000 of us in, 'cos of social distancing <laugh>

You’re making the decision with hindsight though. Regardless of the flash in the pan, we were getting 48000 every home game and the place was bouncing. Atmosphere was amazing. What that stadium needed was a push on investment in the team. We could’ve won the league the first time we finished 7th. The right investment. Instead it got bit part and also rand. It wasn’t that Reid’s team was “flash in the pan” just that SAFC didn’t build on it.

sorry quoted wrong post!! Should’ve been this one
