Good Morning. It's Monday 31st August, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road

Leeds smash transfer record in style

Leeds have smashed their transfer record by bringing Spanish International Rodrigo to Elland Road for a club record of 27m with add ons which will reach over 30m. The former record was created almost two decades ago when Rio Ferdinand joined the Whites from West Ham. The 18m sale was not only a club record at the time, but made him the most expensive defender in he World. Valencia finally agreed the deal to bring the Spanish superstar to Elland Road for a fee of 27m.Spanish International striker Rodrigo 29, put pen to paper over the weekend, earning the former Benfica and Real Madrid hitman a four year deal and a £100,000 a week!

    Koch pens four year year

The ink was barely dry on Leeds record breaking capture of Spanish striker Rodrigo, when they decided to splash out a further 13m on German International Robin Koch. The 24yo centre back played 82 times for
Freiburg, netting four times since his 2.7m transfer from Kaiserslautern in the Summer of 2017. He can also play as a defensive midfielder. Standing at 6ft 4' Koch offers some much needed height in the Leeds Utd ranks. Just like Rodrigo, Koch has also signed for four years.

Bielsa 'warming to the idea' of second centre back

Leeds United are in talks with Dinamo Zagreb to sign Croatian teen sensation Josko Gvardiol. The 18yo emerged from Dinamo Zagreb’s academy last season, and has not looked back. During his breakthrough season, the 6ft 1' central defender has already caught the eye of most of Europe's elite, earning himself a price tag just under 18m.

Those of you that thought Leeds were only in the market to sign one centre back this Summer, you were right - until last weekend! Phil Hay revealed not only were Leeds far from finished in the transfer market, but Bilsa was warming to the idea about signing a second centre back!

Is it risky splashing out almost 20m on a 18yo?

Another central defender on Bielsa's radar is Manchester United's Axel Tuanzebe. The highly regarded 22yo is believed to be available on loan. Having impressed for England at youth level, and whilst on loan at Villa during their promotion season, the youngster has a bright future, but where does Bielsa see him?

Are Leeds about to smash their transfer record twice in a week?

According to the Telegraph, Leeds are in talks with Udinese to sign Argentine International Midfielder Rodrigo De Paul. The versaille 26yo can play as a number 10, winger or false number nine.

Due to the length of his contract, the Whites would need to stump up 30m for his services!

The former Valencia man signed for Udinese in 2016, scoring 25 times and being credited with 25 assists in 146 appearances in all competitions

    Kent drops hint about future

Whilst Ryan Kent gave another man of the match performance on the pitch against Hamilton, most Leeds fans will be talking about his post match interview after the game!

The 23yo was asked where his future was going to take him, and replied “I’ll continue to give my best for Rangers. Where my future takes me, I’m not sure but as long as I’ve got a Rangers shirt on, I’ll give my best.

Does that sound like someone who is 100 percent committed to the Ranger cause?

Should we be concerned about Leeds spending

30m for Rodrigo, 13m for Koch, 15m for Costa, and no sign of slowing down; is anyone concerned about the spending?

    Morning all.

I've no concerns about what we're spending. Kinnear made it clear, we are after quality not quantity, we have the PL money to spend, £100m which will cover transfer, signing on and agents fees. Radz has often been labled a chancer, who'll not spend, personally I think he's doing exactly what he said he'll do. Try to get Leeds up using financial restraint but once there, with the riches it brings, he will do his upmost to progress the club furthur, even if that means bringing in financial backing from elsewhere. He's within his 5 year plan and has done nothing else other than what he said he would. He's a much brighter spark than Ridsdale and won't risk the future of the club on one big ego trip.

If we do get the brilliant Rodrigo De Paul we would have spent £70m on 3 players, but 3 top top Internationals which is still less than Chelsea paid for one player. Its an expensive business trying to compete in the Prem but with the players Bielsa is looking at, you know it will be players of a certain capability who can play in any team in the Prem. There is no gambling on these 3 as there would be with Watkins and Benrhama who are still Brentford players. Spurs, Newcastle and a couple of Italian sides were chasing Koch, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Athletico were chasing Rodrigo just last Xmas. If Carlsberg did players......

    Good morning all
I'm just buzzin with all this great news, can hardly believe the impressive turnaround of this great club.We all continually praise Bielsa and rightly so, but let's not forget Radz, who was the one to start making the massive changes we are enjoying today, all credit to him and what he has done (and he had his doubters) me included at the time, but he was true to his word, and did what he said he would do.
Bottom line is, this club is in super safe hands now, well run and managed from the top down.
Mark my words this club will be truly great again in the eyes of the footballing world.
So once again thank you Mr Radrizzani.

    No concerns about our expenditure

Radz knows this is the right time to invest, you need to speculate to gain, they have a set budget & I doubt we'll exceed what will be a sensible total in today's market

I suspect some funds are incoming from elsewhere!

I think you have to look at the value to the club of being in the premier league. Given you can't guarantee how quickly you can bget back up if relegated (16 years!) - it's a must to stay in it. Therefore you judge your investment against this. If it costs £100m in transfers (fees will be spread out over 3/4 years remember) to secure your future then you do it.

We have a side that player for player is not really prem quality individually throughout the team and we need to improve individually without losing the strengths that got us here. That means prioritising key areas with players who can hit the ground running.

The strategy looks fine to me, whether the players will deliver? Well that's always the unknown.

De Paul looks great if it happens - and as Doc said - 30m for an Argentinian international in his prime, looks good business (for us now) compared to 20m for a championship prospect.

Personally, I'm very happy with the signings made to date... but I'm still wondering a little where the goals are going to come from.

We might get some goals from corners now. Plus rodrigo has got to be a better finisher than what we have.

good morning to matt Doc and co froma very sunny Bardsey

De Paul have we any videos please still think we will get another CB WHO CAN PLAY LEFT Back
Re over spending based on a payoff at 25% I think we will be ok
The players who have shall we say not playing much next season Barndoor and Kiko spring to mind
Would appear to me that we hhave dispensed with Kent and gone towards De Paul

I’m sure he is fella... but he’s an all rounder not an out and our goal scorer - don’t think he’s going to do it all on his own.

Think it may be time to offload Kiko, Douglas, Roberts and Alioski as we should make a few quid because as we know Bielsa will not work with a big squad so if 4 come in he will probably move 3 out?

Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts' withdrawal from the Wales Nations League squad is a precautionary measure, the YEP understands.

ROBERTS WITHDRAWS - Tyler Roberts has pulled out of the Wales squad for their Nations League fixtures this week
The 21-year-old is one of a quartet of Ryan Giggs' players to be removed from the squad to face Finland and Bulgaria, along with Aaron Ramsey, Ashley Williams and David Brooks.

Roberts is not believed to be suffering from a fresh injury, but Leeds have been cautious not to overload the youngster, who has suffered with shin problems in the past and been hampered by injuries during his time at Elland Road.

Last season he started 12 of Leeds' Championship games en route to the title, scoring four and adding one assist.

Although the striker has trained over the past 10 days, he has not been put through the same workload as a number of his team-mates at Thorp Arch, in recognition of the short break between last season and the new Premier League campaign and the need to manage Roberts' fitness.

Whites midfielder Mateusz Klich, who has been called up for Poland's games against Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina, has called it the toughest pre-season to date under Bielsa.

Last week the players were put through four murderball sessions as Bielsa readies them for the top flight.

"I think this one is the most intense and the hardest one yet," said Klich.

"To be fair I couldn't wait to start next season so I didn't really want more holidays."

Loved that Koch signed Saturday and trained by himself at TA Sunday before flying out today to join his German squad. He's also looking forward to meeting his new teammate Rodrigo in the match against Spain
