As usual, you lot have excelled with your selections - maybe 75% of the artists are new to me. Mind you, I'm likely 40 years older than most on here - nevertheless, aall great stuff. I'll leave you guys (& gals) with a bit of history about an old football team mate and pal of mine- a mucker musician from somewhere near London who emigrated here in the '80s. Briefly jammed with Elton John, but when I first met him in the mid 80's, he played percussion with a progressive Canadian band - called Syrinx. Not to everyone's taste, but brilliant musicians nevertheless. Malky Tomlinson sadly passed away about 5 years ago. An unassuming lad, but dedicated to his trade. We played on the same football team for a few years, and then I was transfered (fee -a case of 24 beers - the donor team's tariff), so we ended up kicking the **** out of each other for the next few seasons( he was a centre/inside forward, I was a centre half ( old money expression obviously). After the games ended - several beers and lots of reminiscing about music. Just loved the guy - talented musician, I just barely tinkered on the piano. Interestingly, I could read music - Malky denied he could. I think he was spinning a yarn myself ? Miss you Malky - RIP pal. Remember - may not be to eveyone's taste - but as I said earlier - the audience on this forum are exceptionally respectful https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malcolm_Tomlinson please log in to view this image You're a decent lot of music fans. PS: I first saw Syrinx with my missus - ex ballerina - she took me to a ballet set to "Decmber Angel". I went reluctantly - it was absolutely brilliant. Amazing what music can evoke ?
And now for two choirs...yes I am getting on in years but this music is so enjoyable...I will not hide in shame. First a stunning rendition of Edelweiss by the Little Singers of Armenia...the best ever. Then a fantastic simulation of a thunderstorm by Slovenia's Perpetuum Jazzile - that and the girl in the yellow top in the front row keep bringing me back to it!!! Then Perpetuum Jazzile again, with an unconventional take on traditional Slovenian music- love this.
Can't believe it - found my old copy of the ballet piece set to Syrinx "December Angel". IMHO - a sterling piece of coupled art work ? https://johnmillscockell.ca/stage-film-and-dance/dance-2/
Nice find tigerscanada - combining the music with the ballet performance makes it much more accessible. This kind of dance is in a league of its own - I know absolutely nothing about ballet but that was a mesmerising performance. Maybe it's an old wives tale but I've heard that ballet performers are as fit as Olympian athletes. Anyway, whether it floats your boat or not, I always admire artistes who are dedicated to their oeuvre, no matter how non-mainstream they are - in this case both the ballet dancers and the musicians.
