Correct, I'm pretty sure they have promised to reduce legal immigration and end illegal immigration on each of the last 4 election manifestos. What these angry folk should be asking is why the Government is letting us down.
Illegal immigrants are not entitled to benefits. The clue is in their status, they’re illegal ergo the government don’t know they exist. If they go on to claim asylum, they get a roof over their heads, 37.50 a week allowance and banned from working while they’re awaiting a decision.. Not exactly a promised land like is it???
As if any of us would just sit back and let the world **** on us and just take it, of the boot was on the other foot we'd all be trying to get into the UK to better our lives and our families.
It is compared to some of their countrys. If we entered their country illegally, we’d more than likely be shot.
Can anyone actually say what does this country give them that the rest of the European safe countries that they walk through to get here not give them, if we are allowing them more privaledges than Germany, France etc then we should stop those privaledges. I'm not up ro speed on politics or law but I do know that the EU demand more from this country than any other, could this be a EU law.
The EU have not demanded more from the UK than any other country. Each country has its own benefits system and rules and the likes of Germany and France have taken in more refugees than ourselves. Can not understand people getting their knickers in a twist because lawyers are ensuring the government follow the law of land. The vast majority of illegal immigrants will be deported but it has to be lawful, genuine refugees will be considered for asylum. Most important question in all of this why the government is not working with France to stop this current wave of illegal immigration.
I never mentioned benefits or systems, I was referring to other things the the EU stop this country doing that they happily allow other countries to do but that's for another post. Why would a refugee with his family walk 2 weeks or more through several safe countries just to get to the UK cause if it was me I would stop at the first.
A combination of they speak English, have family connections, believe prospects are better and the UK human trafficing network is top notch.
Sorry I construed 'privaledges' as benefits system and rules. What privaledges are you referring to and what are the EU demanding more of than any other country?
The UK Government are working with France to control immigration into the UK through the Le Tourquet Treaty signed in 2003 and the Sandhurst Treaty signed in 2018. We pay France around £44 m annually, and up to 2018 paid a voluntary additional c£1.5 m to maintain the camps at Calais. Following the vote to leave the EU, President Macron got rid of the camps, hence the increase in boats in the Channel.
The jungle was closed to move migrants to a number of smaller reception camps around France so there was a logic to the closure. The number of boats is more a reflection of how well the existing port protection system is working. Illegal migration will not use one means of entry and as it is fluid our Government should react quickly to any new method. Britain should not expect France taxpayers to pay for our border protection and if it means paying more to France then that is the price we pay for the Government to keep their promises especially as Brexit is coming.
I have wondered about this for years and I listened to a programme on the BBC the other day when a decent sounding explanation was offered by a man from the middle east. He had crossed the channel illegally a year or two ago to claim asylum leaving his family at home in the middle east, when asked why he had travelled across the whole of Europe to get into Britain, his replied that he knew, his claim would be processed here within weeks, in France it would have taken years, and his young family would have been trapped and at risk. I have no idea if he was telling the truth or not, but this one story rang true, and made sense.
Great post. I listened to a speech by Macron in which he said that the UK should accept more responsibility for the crisis and not rely on France to solve the UK's problems.
That can be read two ways though, and could be point scoring in this Brexit mess, do we pay France more money, or get tougher, that's the dilemma. This current situation will only really be solved if the richer countries unite and help out the poorer ones more fairly, that way we might avoid these situations occurring in the first place.
Macron is a politician and I have no doubt that Brexit was in his mind when he delivered the speech, I don't recall him complaining before our vote to leave the EU. I reckon you are right about avoiding the situation that causes people to travel thousands of miles from their homeland to reach safe havens, but successive UK governments have failed to resolve the issue and probably never will.
I personally don’t understand why people obsess about migrants constantly. They aren’t the cause of inequality and extreme poverty. Good luck to them all in finding a safer better life.
Congratulations. A handful of posts and your already trying to implement your liberal lefty fascism. Close your eyes to threads you don't want to read as you do to what is going on around you Where is the hate ? The op stated he had no problem with legal immigrants. Would you vet a childminder or would you just let any young lad rock up and not question whether they were a murderer, rapist or peado ? .
