Sky Sports have dismissed Matt Le Tissier, Charlie Nicholas and Phil Thompson from their Soccer Saturday show. The TV company have been cutting staff numbers recently, and the three pundits were sacked on Tuesday. Between them the three former footballers have clocked up almost 50 years service, and were thought to be popular members of the team on the show. Le Tissier had come under fire recently for sharing his thoughts on coronavirus and the government response on social media in recent weeks. He urged fans to “look beyond the headlines and government propaganda” in a lengthy post on Twitter. There was also controversy after he wore a Black Lives Matter badge on air despite claiming on social media that he did not necessarily agree with the movement.
Or, how about the guy who presented the snooker recently. He knew very little about snooker, but fitted the pc agenda very well. He could step up to the penalty spot and be Jeff's sidekick.
Yep , like watching a bunch of mates discuss the game down the pub .. made good viewing , old school - not everybody wants monotone boring opinions like Jenas , or these younger characters . Talksport going same way , O Hara , Morrison - that is painful listening .
A lot of people on this thread need to cop on. Football is not the exclusive preserve of moany, middle-aged, white, straight men any more.
To have top level insight as a pundit, ideally you should have the medals to show you have competed at the top level like Keane, Hanse, Souness. This means you have competed against the very best and sometimes even beaten them, but you have also seen the game's greatest managers earning their corn at half time by changing tactics, adjusting the balance, giving nuanced bollockings that will turn the game around when the stakes are very high like CL games. Very few players get to experience these rarefied heights, and even fewer are able to analyse/articulate the insights they've gained. That's what people want from pundits: tell us what we don't know, what we can't see for ourselves, and what is going on in their heads. We want proper experts . We don't need Motson, Kamara or Micah Richards - they don't seem to have any more insight than the rest of us.
What Le Tissier said about Covid was bullshit and he had a responsibility as the face of a popular footballing show (not to mention a brilliant footballer) to not post utter ****e, regardless of whether it’s an opinion or otherwise. If it got him sacked, that’s on him.
Le Tissier was my favourite non City player. I was privileged to see him play at Ewood Park against Blackburn in one of the best ever Premier League games. As a player he was immense and a magician with a football at his feet.
Odd that when it comes to The type that complain like hell when Sky schedule matches at ridiculous times for away fan travel, yet slavishly pay their monthly subscription? The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Isn’t it a democracy? Can’t he give his opinion? I’ve no idea what he said but he should be allowed to say whatever the **** he likes. As long as he wasn’t racist or sexist
There's loads of **** ones, Phil Thompson was so irritating. Anyone know how Peter Crouch gets his own show? Robbie Savage, Garth Crooks, Lawrenson!
