THE BBC has been mocked after Land of Hope and Glory reached the top of the iTunes chart following a backlash over the broadcaster's decision to perform the patriotic song without lyrics at the Last Night of the Proms.

Vera Lynn's rendition of Land of Hope and Glory has reached the top spot in the charts after Laurence Fox urged his 230,000 Twitter followers to help get the patriotic ballad to number one.

Tweeting a version by national treasure Vera Lynn, the actor wrote on Tuesday: 'Wouldn’t it be great if we could all come together to get Dame Vera Lynn’s version of “Land of Hope and Glory” number one in the charts?

'Would the @BBC then have to play it? What a beautiful day that would be. Please share widely. RT #DefundTheBBC.'

BBC are trying to get rid of our history and heritage , all they are doing is making people more patriotic , do they honestly think it will change anything - it’s from our distant past and people in general are proud of our country and are entitled to celebrate our history with GUSTO!!!

Apart from the first, and second line, very few people know the words or care what they mean. It's just a great tune and a catchy title ...

... let's be honest every country wants to be one of hope and glory.

but it was the British navy mate that stopped the slave trade, the Americans Dutch and French still traded when told to stop we impounded there ships and sold them after setting the slaves free on all the carribean islands. to counter this when the royal ensign was spotted the dutch would tie all the slaves to the anchor chain cut it and drown them. in retaliation the royal navy would hang all the crew from the yardarm sail it into Charleston port, to show the world what happens to slave traders.

    It's insane mate.

Just as thousands of non-Jews died in the camps, millions of non-blacks have been slaves.

You can't take a word and make it yours alone and take offence if someone else uses it.

It’s a pity the BBC didn’t take the same stance in outing perverts.
And far all Farage has his knockers he showed that worthless twat up on This Morning, so did the two presenters. The professionally offended arsewipe didn’t have a clue why he was offended.

Many of the slave ship crews were NE blokes who'd been kidnapped, leaving their families destitute, and made to work for little or no wages ...

... or do people think they were handed a share of the profits.
