Claiming this was racially motivated, based entirely on the colour of the officers skin, is as racist as it gets.

Yes mate, WA. I have no idea about the reasons why we all carry guns, I just know we have to. We’re all double crewed as well which is good for officer safety. WA is fairly sedate to be honest. I struggle to understand why Melbournians are so anti everything the state government is trying to do to reduce community spread.

Can't be too careful I suppose. I'd always rather officers had weapons and not need them rather than the other way round! Except the football police, the one side of the police that I'm not massively fond of, certainly wouldn't give guns to the south Yorkshire football police!!

It makes me uneasy seeing armed officers. I understand the need for them in certain places but I find it quite unpleasant seeing them at stations and airports. And that's our lot, who look professional and like they're in control. Its bloody horrible seeing them in the States lounging around, with machine guns and whatever else.

We live in a society, national and otherwise, that necessitates the need for armed officers in those sort of places imo. I think it’s already been said, but it’s kind of understandable in the USA where their constitution allows the general population to carry guns; in some states openly, that there are a lot of shootings by police.

I agree about the need for them. It doesn't necessarily make me feel any safer though.

Ive been reading a few forums about this subject. Any person who dares to defend the police officer, or even those who state that folk should wait before all facts come out before making judgement, are being branded racist. Being met with 'Go back to your white world, you wouldnt understand because you're white. etc' Like you say, you cant get any more racist than that.
I myself have no doubt that society, in America particularly, has problems with racism, I sympathise. Changes need to be made. But instantly jumping onto events such as this and labelling it as 'racism' is counterproductive. Current media frenzied reactions to events such as this only helps towards making changes impossible. If you could only get influential black and white folk to publicly agree that the man was shot because he fought and resisted arrest despite numerous warning, and the policeman may have reacted excessively at the heat of the moment, however there is no evidence at present to prove that the shooting was racially motivated? That would do more good for BLM than the current strategy.

Were living in a time where people are not prepared to do as their told when confronted by an authority figure be it at school, in the A&E dept or out on the streets by the police, parking attendants etc.
we have a generation (or two) who just do as they please and not what's expected from them, not wearing a mask, not gathering in groups or social distancing or being told ' you can't do that' without making an issue of it.
I'd hate to live in America because of the gun laws and obvious racial hatred, I'm also not keen on visiting large cities in this country as having lived in quiet villages over the past 30 years or so I now find cities intimidating places despite spending 30 years in the police force ( it was a force in my time and not a service as the PC brigade would have us say now).
I don't know where society is heading these days and I am concerned for my Grand children having to make they're way in this bitter world that we see before us today.
Isn't it enough just being a Sunderland supporter without having all this other shi t to deal with.<laugh>

Sadly that will never happen because it wouldn't help their self serving political agendas.

Can you imagine the vitriol that the 1st black public figure would get if he/she made such a statement? If a white person says it then they will be tarred with the rascist brush quicker than you could blink.

If it helps I’m in a police force now. And in the old country I was just in a police.

I agree with this and think in some areas we're heading down a more lawless path. In balance though, we do have the elite basically lining their own pockets and not giving a toss about normal folk. And I think the further we go down an ever widening economic gap we'll see further fragmentation and disruption in society generally.

I can understand there being a debate on whether or not it was acceptable that the policeman shot him 7 times. Whichever side you are on regarding this, it is open for debate.
I cant fathom why there is a debate on whether he should have been shot at all. The evidence is there for all to see that he resisted arrest. Did he deserve it? Probably/Possibly not. Did he cause it? 100%
A debate on whether he was shot because he was black? Is an insult to the copper who shot him.
