    Yep, I'm the same
I also can't stand people like the opinionated, sneering and pompous Naga Munchetty and co on the BBC News. MOTD is just boring these days, and don't get me started on the BBC Weather forecasters and the mis match in what they say and the contents of the BBC Weather App, and all from the same organisation. You're better off with a piece of seaweed or looking out of the window as to what the weather will be doing and you'll be more accurate than they are. That way the BBC could get rid of a load of pointless jobs.
I've also just cancelled my Sky Sports subscription and have saved myself £22 a month as watching football without spectators is soulless
If you like Paul Whitehouse and co (as I do), there is a new Fast Show on this Saturday called Just A Load Of Blooming Catch Phrases !

Well I think you are wrong about this one.

The faux outrage as you describe it, started yesterday with the female Finnish composer stating she wanted to drop both songs.

The BBC in it's inimitable manner thought, **** how are we going to get out of this one, with our left wing wokeness in tact?

So today a true and mind numbing BBC bullshit fudge, I know we'll play the music but won't have any singing and we will say it's a safety issue because of covid.

Sadly other songs will be sung including the national anthem (unless of course somebody plays the racism card over that one as well).

    Double standards? you choose.

It also has to be remembered this story came from somebody at the heart of the BBC and given the fact quite a few well known BBC employees have criticised the decision making of this issue, I would say, this story has legs.

All the tabloids needed to do was read the BBC media statements.

'The Proms will reinvent the Last Night in this extraordinary year so that it respects the traditions and spirit of the event whilst adapting to very different circumstances at this moment in time. With much reduced musical forces and no live audience, the Proms will curate a concert that includes familiar, patriotic elements such as Jerusalem and the National Anthem, and bring in new moments capturing the mood of this unique time, including You’ll Never Walk Alone, presenting a poignant and inclusive event for 2020.

Note what was missing - Rule Britannia. It will now be included but not sung. No nasty lyrics. The BBC who are left wing still have their biased change.

But Land of Hope and Glory is being kept and that is just as nasty. “Wider still and wider shall thy bounds be set”. So I’m not sure that point stands?

Until somebody shows me that this was anything more than just a few people calling for it, or even just a consideration of a proposal, then to me it just looks like more fake outrage designed to generate clicks and ad revenue.

Which is basically what the tabloids are, be it benefit cheats, people wanting the English flag banned, etc. They massively amplify a tiny minority, generate the anger, get the clicks in and make more money. Repeat. And now they’ve added this to that list.

I am sorry I think you are wrong on this one I would suspect that there is at least a majority of British people possibly a vast majority who are not happy about this latest attempt at cancelling anything British, by left wing revisionists.

I find it strange that you want evidence over this but took BLM at face value.

The hypocrisy is mind numbing, how many rap albums are owned by the same people with same view as yours? containing misogyny, racism, homophobia and lyrics containing violence, apparently that's ok for some reason.

Of course you could actually show us the evidence from the BBC to support your view?

That was not from the tabloids that was from the BBC's own media outlet. It was clearly a real consideration from the BBC. They stated "a ceremony without an audience" is the perfect opportunity for "change".

It was the BBC who wanted to break from tradition, and have.

A bit like footballers taking the knee, I wonder how that will play out once crowds return?

With that in mind I see that the South African players who play for Sale Sharks rugby team have received death threats for declining to take a knee.

rule brittania .. and land of hope glory is a bit like having something to believe in … like god … how many on here actually believe there is a god … how many believe there is aliens that visit from time to time or helped the ancient Aztec/Inca's or Egyptians to cut rock so perfectly that even with todays it is extremely difficult!
a twisted mind must conclude that anthems such as these are offensive … they are "hymns" of our past our present and our future something to believe and look up to [ bit like god really? ] … the BBC IS NOW AN OUTDATED defunct entity, overtaken by modern day technology and financial markets.
WE actually pay a fortune to BBC to watch non BBC programmes …
now because they "waste so much" they need to get £300m [ almost ] from poor pensioners

Yet funnily enough they can scrape together the £2m a year salary for Gary Lineker. Like the NHS, a lot of the money doesn't go to the real workers/heroes, it goes to administrators and high profile figures with ridiculous salaries, which as far as I can see are not justified.

It is a letter to the Guardian. Not necessarily the Guardians view. An easy answer to the letter writer is there are eighty proms, eighty proms to do as the letter writer suggest, one prom the "Last" can also represent contemporary Britain, a Britain that contains people that are patriotic and proud about their Country and traditions.

Changing the last night of the proms as has occurred and further as suggested can be viewed as acts of prejudice.

    Two points.

Firstly there were other articles defending the BBC in the Guardian, find me a Guardian article in support of what seems to be a majority view that yet again the BBC has got it wrong.

Secondly not fully giving into this culture cancel will not appease these nutbars to support it, they want it all.

Yesterday the BBC had a piece about parents concerned about sending their children back to school.

They introduced 2 women being interviewed as 'concerned mothers', now maybe they were.

But both turned out to be far left wing activists, a fact that I am sure the programme researchers were fully aware of.

And on Breakfast this morning Walker and Munchetty were trying like hell to find fault with the kids going back to school.
The deputy head of the Headmasters Organisation was having none of it.
In fact it became embarrassing how biased these BBC clowns were.

I ask what is it with the BBC, why do they hate Great Britain so much.
And don't start me, I've tried to refrain commenting, about their stance on Last Night of the Proms.

I read a quote today, Sweden kept it schools open throughout the pandemic and it would appear not a single child died.

I do not read the Guardian. I do not disagree the BBC has got it wrong or that the Guardian does not hold a view of the majority. I responded to a letter, the writer does want his world view represented but not one of diversity of culture. The BBC can do both and choose not to. It is prejudiced and hypocritical.
