Looks like some "Albanian men injected" his sister and it knocked her unconscious immediately which started it. Fair enough Harry, kick the **** out of them. It's the next bit which is a bit cringy. Apparently he said at the station "do you know who I am? I am the captain of Man Utd, I am very rich, I can give you money!". ****ing hell Harry, have a bit of pride, keep your mouth shut and pay the fine.
Trying to bribe when you're at the station. Mistake 101 right there Bet the copper was thinking FFS ya stupid sod!
Exactly. It's a minor fracas. As soon as the police turn up, keep it shut, take the slap on the wrist and take the fine. Don't hit the police, never ends well! If you are going to bribe do it with one of the officers at the scene of the crime, no witnesses. ****ing modern footballers. Wouldn't have happened in Billy Whitehursts day.
If he'd done it properly he could've got away with a signed shirt ffs. He'll be the only person in the world grateful for Covid and having no fans in the grounds next season. Could you imagine the chants... Either... "Do you know who you are. Do you know who you are. You got fcked by greek pigs Do you know who you are...." Or could be... "We know who you are... We know who you are...
It's the bubble they live in. Detached from reality. If he's said what's been alleged it shows the general mentality of footballers these days.
I don't know a lot about Maguire, but he don't strike me as the sort of guy, that lords it, he don't even strike me as 'one of the lads.' After all, as Tel said, who takes their sister on holiday with them. When you think of modern day players, fair point. But the thing is he obviously does care for his sister, something occurred, whatever it was, and he probably panicked once the old bill got involved, hence tried to turn to the corny words of status and money - Akin to a scene from Del Boy or Auf Wiedesehen Pet. He's been found guilty, btw.
Southgate... "Maguire gave me the facts which are very different to what is being reported so I have selected him"
I'm guessing the guy just panicked, and tried to think of a quick and easy way out, wrong approach, but our minds can do stupid things in the heat of the moment.
Not sure I would believe everything that came out of a Greek court, not suggesting he's innocent either. But at times like this, you find out who your friends are, and Southgate is backing him, fair play I say.
Maguire's lawyer wile defending him in court... "He would not disrespect the Greek authorities...he loves ancient Greek history"
Maguire found guilty of trying to bribe the police, a crime for which the sentence is paying a hefty fine to avoid jail time. Go figure.
