Agree, they are trying to tell UK what we can/can't do when they do it themselves? The government needs to stay strong. That £400bn EU bailout will come back to haunt them. I am only worried about the possible sell-out of fisheries but the Tories would get hammered if they double-crossed the fishing communities.
On another note when I was in France I noticed dozens of shops/businesses had closed down. I also noticed how expensive shopping was. All stuff has gone up and people are P'd off with the prices. They need to get real and sort out a decent deal instead of sitting on it... which they are doing.

I don't sense it will be half a century. I'd be amazed if we don't have some sort of deal with the EU in place in the next 18 months. So long as we don't concede on competition matters, the government can start targeting business areas right away. It can be nimble where the EU is an oil tanker slowed down by regulations

The UK government is asking for a year on year renewal deal on fishing, which is what Norway does. Seems reasonable, and even EU countries think Barnier is not correct demanding fishing in our waters as of right.

As the FT article says, it's the level playing field issue that is the biggest sticking point. Boris and Co cannot afford to concede on that. I'm hoping that the well known R's fan, Michael Gove is, as we speak, putting in excellent provisions for the country in the event of a no-deal (!). With No-deal, Covid and flu, this could be a 1970's style winter - and not much better on the Continent. We should enjoy the remains of summer while we have it

I'm fully confident that this government will achieve the worst possible outcome.

Don't worry Stroller we are better off with this lot than the muppet show. I nearly spat my tea out when I heard Ed Milliband was brought into the shadow cabinet! I am glad they are bringing in winners? <yikes>

We'll see. They have plenty of Tory MP's, and Farage in the media, breathing down their necks

If there is no deal, the biggest reason will be the intransigence from the EU.

Spot on Col. I read an interesting article regarding Barnier sitting on a deal and how the EU wants to make this tough for us. Apparently like the mafia you are not supposed to leave?

    Exactly.
They have been using the migrants in the channel as pawns and are also making demands surrounding fishing rights that they know we won't agree to.

Agree. They're still treating the UK as a naughty recalcitrant from the EU and not an independent nation. It may take a period of no deal for them to get the message

Probably that uniquely poor hand we were dealt.

To be honest, I'm past caring about brexit and the 'ifs & buts'. What will be will be. I just hope for UK's sake that the economy isnt trashed even further. I dont blame johnson for hiding in fridges and running away from any and every important bit of scrutiny. Cant see him lasting beyond brexit anyway. He will have had his use and the media powers will decide who PM's next. Let's just hope and pray this country can get back on its feet as soon as possible rather than short term to medium turn hardships during what is predicted to be one of the worst recessions.

Lots of long term gains definitely happening to look forward to that will only be possible due to going through the most drawn out, winging it as we go along Brexit possible which will help keep us all warm at night in anticipation. Definitely happening, to reiterate.

Should be good. A short to medium term downfall and hardship whilst mass unemployment and a pandemic is going on. Things are looking rosey.

Absolutely right. Don't trust any of those ridiculous negative forecasts from those experts who know nothing. It's impossible to predict the future and everything will be fine.

The Institute of Brexit is Brilliant, Chaired by Mark François, however, has made some forecasts that you can put your house on. A lot of long term upsides. Absolutely wonderful stuff.

Just make sure you've already retired and the Govt doesn't end that lovely triple lock so you're entirely isolated from the short term negative consequences and the jobs a good un.

I hope you are not saying he is the mystery Tory with the woman thing? It can't be him as he was not a minister?
