If you watch Griggs goals on YouTube, apart from penalties most come from in and around the six yard box. The only game that I can remember playing to his strengths was Tranmere at home last season. Although he only got one, apart from Maguire's free kick our four goals from open play were scored in that area.
So we have to get the ball into the six yard box as quickly as possible to get the best out of Grigg. Obviously McGready and Grigg did not work, are other changes needed and if so who.
I agree, we did it against Tranmere at home and we scored 5. I know they were poor opposition but if you have a 10-20 goals a season man, it seems daft to play him with his back to goal.
True, but we have faced a lot of poor opposition, without putting them to the sword, often due to the style of play we have adopted. I like your ideas for Grigg, and it would save a lot of conjecture if we played to get the best out of him. For me we need to be far more direct, neither Gooch or Maguire play this way naturally do they need to adapt or should we get the ball forward from mid field more quickly (PS our own Jordan Henderson is a master of this style but a bit out of our price range at present but I am sure there are others less expensive who could stand in for him in the meantime ).
I think Danny Graham would have scored the two that Wyke fluffed yesterday at Gateshead, the one he inexplicably tried to backheel to nobody, and the one he calmly passed back to the keeper from about 2 yards. I know it was a preseason friendly, but it really was basics.
Regarding Henderson I reckon there's a chance that if we get promoted back to the Championship or even the Premiership in the next 2-3 years Henderson will finish his footballing career at Sunderland.
McGeady must be frustrating for a forward as you can't read him at times. A centre forward needs to make runs in the certainty the winger will play the ball in that space, McGeady could play some lovely balls in but would repeatedly try beat the same player twice or cut inside and shoot. When we had Denver or Gooch putting crosses in we looked more likely to score. I would also play Wyke deeper let him drag defenders out and give the space to run at defences
Parkinson visited him at his house down Wynyard last week, he’ll be training with us this week but not 100% sorted yet.
See I’m not bothered about the “one fir the future”. Just want out of the third division!!! We can sign 11 40 year old Ronaldos and if they get us promoted I’ll be happy
Not good enough for Sunderland man. Loads of our fans said that when he was here so it must be true???
I liked him, He was only going to get better and I thought that he was a decent Premier League standard player, but to be fair I thought we done well to get around 20M for him though, and he has exceeded expectations, I think he would admit that. I would love him back here as he has never lost his love for Sunderland, and deep down will always be a Sunderland supporter like all of us.
I've got no issue with Danny Graham signing he will bring more to the team than what Wyke does. He holds the ball up and brings other players into the game, whereas Wyke loses possession time and time again.
She doesn’t know what day of the week it is, I’m sure he will sign but you and others are wrong, he hasn’t signed anything as of yet. Oh and she doesn’t get called Victoria.
