Likewise mate! An estimated at 6 million people have fallen behind with there bills because of this pandemic - let alone how many renters will be turfed out, only to put pressure on a struggling social /council housing.

does the figures show how much they owed and would not pay before covid struck, if the money owed is when covid struck i agree with you, if its before covid and beer and baccy was more important to them than the bills i have no sympathy, we all know low income people receive good help towards payment, discounts where some pay little while some pay nothing, then we have the other type who no matter what you do for them they cannot survive in society must have the drugs before anything else.for these people the time has come to take all payments away from them, give them what they need pay all bills for them but dont give cash. if they steal to fix, then prison and cold turkey why should tax payers suffer for people who will not co exist.

    It’s madness mate.

Few days back I loaned money to a pal, to pay his mortgage and a chunk of his credit cards, lad with 2 kids, absolute grafter, never missed any payments but he was furloughed then made redundant.

He was close to tears, didn’t ask, I offered. Now, how many people like this are there? He was at ****ing breaking point and now there’s the threat of folk beating on his door for money he hasn’t got on top of it all?

I just can’t comprehend it. I’ve got so many pals who have been financially impacted yet the outgoings remain, they are talking about ‘kickstarting the economy’ whilst driving folk into poverty.

The done out thing? Why? Folk who eat out regularly didn’t need it. I’ve used it, sure, but I didn’t need it. Struggling families don’t eat out so it’s worthless to them.

Surely that few billion quid could have supported affected or low income households? It’s all so ****ing backward man.

Categorically agree there mate, I’m not suggesting bill dodgers in general should get a gimme. I mean folk who try and stay on top of it but are handicapped right now.

I quite simply cannot criticise Labour for their handling of the Coronavirus crisis because they are not in power. They lost the election, the Tories won. The Tories and specifically Boris Johnson are in power. They make policies, they enact laws apertaining to Covid19 because they are the government. Labour cannot do either of those things because they lost the election. Jeremy Corbyn, Kier Starmer and any other Labour MP have as much say in handling Covid as you or me. None.

was watching a program on renters, people who bought houses to rent for their retirement, the renters then pay the first month and live rent free for up to 18 months before finally being evicted without paying another penny. It costs the owners over 2 thou to get them out, then the Albanians and Romanians who rent a posh pad pay for a month then sub let for 10 there are some single mothers who spend their life dodging paying rent but living well off the rent payments the receive but don't pass on.

I never understood why the government ( not sure which one it was ) decided to give the rent money to the renter instead of the owner they were told what would happen and now it’s coming back to bite them on the arse big time.

We agree here, but it’s how it’s managed.

Area I’m looking to move into is renting out and I tell you something, it’s a ****ing minefield.

I have a city centre apartment that would rent out for double it’s mortgage, which in the face of it even after tax paid on it is a dream scenario. Rate of borrowing against it is ridiculously though as there’s 6 figure equity in it, but the scenario you’ve just listed is very real.

Someone can absolutely **** off the rent, and you are absolutely snookered, it’s a slow, expensive process to work through and get the place back, it makes a real minefield.

The way around it is to use an agent giving a guaranteed yield if you can, but then you are paying out fees every month and the whole point is lost anyway.

I’m looking at renting privately to family or friends below market value as a safe haven. Whichever way you slice it you’re either losing money, or taking a massive risk.

There’s got to be a better way.

The past few months have put a awful strain on my own finances and resources -My family have never experienced anything like it ! Both me and my wife are self -employed/ freelancers and it's constant a worry, my health has deteriorated all because of a lack of work and with no contracts for the foreseeable and very little support.

It's one of the reasons I'm so vitriolic because of this uncaring government they've really only looked after big business and ****ed up so many people with small businesses and enterprises, most of my friends and peers who also work in cultural sectors are screwed.

Many haven't paid their mortgages and rent because they had to feed themselves. These are hardworking people.

not my question and don't doge the answer if you criticize Tories then how many labour politicians also caught covid
Labour MP Kate Osborne was among the first to be diagnosed with the virus.
Mid-Bedfordshire MP Ms Dorries, 62, took to twitter to announce she has recovered from the virus last month
Cheltenham MP Alex Chalk revealed in a facebook video he was taking the ‘safer course’ and self isolating.
Nadine Dorries Labour MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle MP for Peterborough Paul Bristow Rosie Duffield then 6 who attended black lives matter i can go on but its what you should have researched first

It was Iain Duncan Smith who brought that in under Universal Credit. I wholeheartedly agree. The rent payment is not the tenants payment it is the Landlord's payment and should always be paid direct to them. Why anybody with an ounce of common sense cannot see this beggars belief.

my old dad told me NEVER A LENDER OR BORROWER BE including friends and family, always a sure way to fall out, best way is to get the renter to sign a pre nup type arrangement drawn up by a solicitor, guaranteeing they will move out if owing 2 months or more its legal and only loses you 2 months max

I’ve seen it first hand mate, lads like yourself who are the backbone of Britain, the most important folk do the smallest jobs sometimes and they are just ignored (not saying this is you, but I know you’ll get that).

Mental health is going to be a massive fallout, folk already struggle with the cost of living and the pressure of staying employed, now if someone is without work they are in a boat where thousands are looking at same time per job.

I’m very fortunate with my employment, but it’s grim to watch from the sidelines where really good lads and lasses are just left high and dry or offered £400 month or whatever to support their family. I’m single and I couldn’t live on that (Of course rent or mortgage is gonna be in excess of that for most anyway, how do they eat? Sanitise? Dress?)

You can’t climb out of a recession if someone’s kicked out the bottom 3 rings of the ladder.

Not denying they caught it. But I bet a pound to a penny none of them deliberately and willfully went against advice and knowingly exposed themselves to the risk of catching it. Would you shake hands with someone you know has the virus? I certainly wouldn't. In fact I wouldn't shake hands with anybody at the minute full stop.

Yeah that was something that Barclays suggested, that you can bypass certain parts of the law by having it written in.

They were clear that this wasn’t watertight though, because there’s rules and regulations beyond a tenancy agreement etc. It’s a while off anyway mind I haven’t bought the house yet (tried, but ****ing useless agents...)
