There is a difference between Marxism as a political ideology, which may or may not be discredited, and Marx's analysis of history and economics, which certainly aren't discredited. People study Marx for the same reason they study Adam Smith; because he had something important to say about human society and how it had reached the point it had in the 19th Century.
