Sloanes came across as a knob head in that hastily arranged RAWA meeting. Of course we all want what is best, but will have ulterior motives, mine isn’t licking the owners hoop. Hopefully following this, he will contribute other than slagging off fans

Second to none I’d assume mate.

I know folk have a pop at Sky over pricing and all that **** (just ignoring that any business on earth and any one of us needs to make money....), but within the game they have absolutely unrivalled access, the top end Sky talent are seen as ‘friends’ of the clubs and the players.

He’s a top bloke, he’s gonna be able to build bridges for the club if he stays as he is, a bit more active and such.

Such is his respect in the game he has been used as a consultant for clubs in managerial searches and recruitment. Says all you need to know.

I’ve never met the bloke mate. Some people are consummate professionals with public relations like Dave J. others no so. Just because he comes across as a knob in one meeting doesn’t mean he hasn’t got the interests of the club at heart. Cloughy was no good with criticism or public relations but he was a bloody genius at sorting football teams out!

I’m not sure we could put Sloanes in the same bracket as Cloughy. :emoticon-0105-wink:. He needs to stop slagging off fans who have been put through the mill marra.

I read this on RTG a while back but aside from a comment about fans on social media being overly critical, I wasn't sure quite what the uproar about him was. Its likely that I missed something though.

Not disagreeing with you bud you’re right about that aspect and it is very short sighted. Cloughy was the only one I could think of at that point in respect of lacking diplomacy at times but you get my drift. We’ll see what happens over the next few weeks hopefully it will end positively. It certainly still seems that way at present!!

I agree with the comments regarding Dave Jones, impressive on the fixtures breakfast and looks to have taken on a lot more responsibility i.e. recruitment, and by the sounds of it he'd pushed for that responsibility after initially not being involved. My concern is the new owners, whoever they are and in what capacity, use a new broom and he's swept aside with the others. He's the type of link we need with his contacts etc, it will be a massive blow and disappointment if he's not still involved with the new people (assuming there are new people!).

I’d imagine a new owner would see someone at the forefront of the UK’s biggest sports broadcaster as a massive positive asset to be honest.

Links like that are absolute gold.

You would think so yes, just hope that's what happens. Until it does I'll be edgy.

Excellent that he is involved with our club...perhaps a bigger role for him with the new people perhaps?

I think Sloanes was the chap who made that comment about the Roker Report finance / audit guy. I forget his name, and exactly was was said by Sloanes but it was not complimentary.

Ahh Chris Weatherspoon, the WMS finance guy.

Don't believe Roker Report had a specialist in that area in their fanzine, they have Connor Bromley back but.....yeah.

I'd be happy to see the back of Sloanes and Jones, if the takeover goes ahead. Don't need derogatory comments made about the fans, from someone in such power at the club.

Jones, ehh give or take to be honest.

How long had they been at the club when these remarks where made ? Were they towing the party line ? Do they deserve a second chance ? Just throwing this out

Sloanes has suddenly become a lot more engaging and involved on twitter. I get the impression he had been towing the party line until the last week or so. Which is interesting if you consider what’s been discussed in this thread. It could be that him and Jones are essentially doing Neil Fox’s job now and know the current regime won’t be here for long

Could also be the case of they could be here long term but don't want to engage with the fans. ‍♂️

I'm just being skeptical today for some reason, someone pass me a can of Irn Bru for my sugar fix and I'll be buzzing again and dreaming of takeover galore.

Jones seems like a good bloke and his links are absolutely crucial to the club. I'm glad we've got him on board. Its worrying that we've had to rely on someone who is technically outside of the game in order to establish such links though.

That's interesting don't really do much Twiter (if that's the right term) but when Sloanes came on board he always seemed like he had his head up Donads arse (that is the right term) probably due to his links with Betdaq over the last two years. also only read the notes from the RAWA meeting but they seemed to confirm it.
However his tone was noticeably different on the breakfast broadcast and if he's changed on twitter. He seems to me to be a bit of a smarmy yes man so wonder if there is a change in the air

Doesn’t everyone though mate? Is a chief exec going after sponsors any different?

Just happens he’s got better access within the game.

I reckon David Jones due to his experience and contacts will be an invaluable sounding board to the existing staff as well as anyone taking over the club , I think his love for the club is very much a bonus that most clubs will envy . On his appointment he talked about the need to improve the recruitment and the Academy which most SAFC will certainly agree with .
